So what would you do?

People like you do not appreciate the nature of aggressive dogs. German shepherds are not nice dogs. There is a reason they are guard, police and military dogs. Many dogs are great with their family and people they know, but are aggressive toward strangers. Just because your stupid dog doesn't try to rip your face off doesn't mean it won't do that to a stranger. Keep your damn dog on a leash and stuff like this won't happen.

LOL!! I don't appreciate the nature of aggressivie dogs??? I made a living working with police dogs. I know what I'm talking about. You? Not so much.

I know what I am talking about too. I have dealt with dogs for years in a professional setting.

You stated that fearing for one's safety when faced with an aggressive dog which is not leashed was irrational. Either you are an idiot or your can not communicate, especially considering your supposed extensive work with them.

If we can all calm down let's go back and reread nitetrain98s hypothetical dog point of view post. Now tell me that isn't the funniest thing you ever read? He was just saying the dogs were seeing the "stick monsters" as a threat. People are afraid of my dog when I walk it also. Then they ask if he bites. Of course I say "no, he's a fuzzy ball of foofoo," and they will come and pet him, sometimes. That's what dogs do, they bark and act aggressive because that's all they can do to communicate that they are afraid. When it comes to dogs you just stand your ground and that will usually end most situations with them. If they charge (are on land and capable of charging)then they are a threat and can be dispatched as needed and legally so. At least that's the law by me according to our sheriffs deputies. After hearing how this went down I would just be glad the dog owner didn't come back with police and say it went down differently. Just to be a jerk of course. It's their word against yours but you also have a loaded gun that they had seen and can identify. That can get sticky quick. To the OP, I say you handled it well as it ended with no shots fired and that always a good thing.

A) Beyond the threat posed (or the utility to defensive preperations) dogs and dog behavior are off topic here.

B) It is getting rude in here and we're about a half-step from folks saying some things they shouldn't here at THR.org.

Sic terminus.
