Very cool Savage Model 24V

I have one in .223/20ga and its a great gun. I like it so much it sleeps in my truck and goes with me everywhere.

The 222/20 is a fairly rare and often sought after model. I have never seen one with barrels and a receiver like that.

I'd say it ends up going for a pretty penny...

A very nice looking example and still being under bid on. I have one that I customized for my usage - it will be with me for the duration. I have shortened the barrels, re-chambered to .223 Rem, and the 20ga. barrel is set up for screw in chokes. A chanber adaptor lets me shoot .22 LR in the upper barrel, and a rifled choke tube in the lower barrel is nice for chooting sabot slugs.
I highly recommend this model of the Savage.

I've made a couple of edits to the original post to fix the confusion over this (not) being a sale thread.

Those guns are pretty cool. Love to have one someday ... but I'm already addicted to repeated, recurring, redundancy multiple times over so I can't imagine how to justify such a purchase! :D

Those Savage combos are neat guns and they are and have been for some time going up in price.
Way up.
Had a friend when I was a teenager that had a Savage 24 in .22 mag/20 gauge.
I always wanted one in 30-30/20 gauge.
But I cant justify the price at the moment.

Do they make them in a 12.ga combo?

Recently, in a what-if-u-can-only-have-1-gun thread, it occured to me
that a 12.ga / .22LR combo would be the best for Survival.

Just pack some slugs and Buck and a backpack full of .22LR ammo.
Will put meat on the table and keep predators away.

At one time Savage offered their 2400 which was made by Valmet.
It was a 12 gauge/222 combo.
This was also offered in 12 gauge/.308.
But these imports were very expensive even back in the late 70's when they were produced.

Great guns and I've wanted one since I "recently" learned about them.

Since the gun is both a shotgun and a rifle AND a lot of folks aren't aware of them I think General is a reasonable place to post on them.

I've got the 357 mag/20 gauge model ... wouldn't think of parting with it ... I figure I've got my choice of about 20 different loads and considering I load for both 38 special and 357 mag and reload 20 gauge also the actual number of different loads may actually be infinite ... one thing about these guns, you don't find many that haven't spent time in the field ...

I had a Savage Model 22/410---I was lost by my brother & his OLD GRANDAD.
I got the same gun years later Savage Model 24V--.22 over 410--I still have this one.
Got a lot of dust on it......................

They did toward the end of the run make a 12 ga version, although I don't think they ever made a 22/12 ga. As appealing as a 12 ga sounds, they were very heavy. The 20 ga versions turned out to be more practical.

The survivial folks are the probably the dominant buyers of the Savage 24 models. The 24 models have been around for a long time and the interest comes and goes. They are fairly heavy long guns and the 20ga models are more practical. They were initially sold as turkey hunting rigs especially in states that allow both rifles and shotguns. You seldom get more than one shot with turkeys. If you read old gun magazines, they have been mentioned as possible survivalist guns for a long time.

In the early 80's Wallymart ran an ad in our newspaper selling .357/20 ga. for $99. Of course when we tried to buy one they claimed a typo. After my wife put the store manager in a hammerlock, I got one that I still have.

he he he.... Keep the wife too!

I had never even heard of these as an affordable option. I have long admired the doubles that I saw and shot in the UK, but fwill never make enough money to own one. I guess I will just have to inherit one......

I got mine in trade for a Star arms 1911 in 9mm Largo. The guy gave me the 24v in .223/20ga and a $100 for a good old brazilian 9mm that you can't find ammo for.
