I have a client that wants to mount a flashlight on a Remington 870 shotgun.

Any suggestions out the as to a light/mount combo that actually works well and will stand up to being mounted on a shotgun?

Thanks in advance.

I like the Laserlyte Tri-Rail. Cheap and Durable, provided you have an extended magazine tube.

If not, look at a forend with a rail such as the ATI, G+G+G, Command Arms, Mako, etc. and from there either use 1" scope rings and the 1" diameter LED light of your choice or drop the coin on the Streamlight TLR-1. It's 100 bucks but after buying one with the Tril Rail for my 590, I wouldn't go another route unless I had the extra money to spend in which I'd get one of the Surefire dedicated forends. The TLR-1 is super bright and built like a tank.

Shop from Optics Planet and Midway if possible...not a fan of of the other companies, at all really...

There used to be someone called "candewman" that had a site with all kinds of CNC-made aluminum devices for attaching all kinds of things...........

I have no stake, experience or other data one way or the other, but his stuff looks good

If you can get ahold of one, Remington has a factory LE/Milspec dual picatinny rail setup that clamps extended magazine to barrel. It's a nice solid unit.

The Streamlight light mount is also solid and lightweight. It's also very low profile and less likely to be in the way should you decide to remove the light for a bit.

Then there is the Laserlyte tri-rail system mentioned above, which is also pretty good.

Surefire makes fore ends specifically designed for shotguns. They replace the stock fore end and are designed for use on a shotgun.

They have a built in momentary on touch pad that also allows the light to be switched on. It has an LED for ruggedness.

Be forewarned they cost almost as much as the shotgun but are absolutely the best light for a shotgun. I know they have models for Mossburg and Remington, not sure about others. I have one on my 870

I think the SureFire forends are the best solution too, although they are heavy and expensive. Other solutions typically get you into things like switches that are in awkward places or cables that are dangling around.

I'm still around. There's lots of choices out there today from just a few bucks to over $100. For those who haven't been to the website, here's a look at the MOD-C on a Winchester 1300. It fits the Remington 870 and a host of others as well. These are built for professional operation but reasonably priced for what you get. If you go around a corner and catch your light by accident, I guarantee you won't snap this mount.
