S.D. Myer

Here is my floral carved and dyed Threepersons. This one is stamped S.D. Myer Sweetwater Texas. I bought it second hand from a Texan.:scrutiny:

The hammer protector isn't seen to often, but it was a great idea. It kept the spur from cutting up a covering garment, but didn't require lifting the barrel's muzzle any higher to clear it.

Now they just cut off the hammer spur... :banghead:

Alright, these are the photos I took last year at the museum in Sweetwater.

Hopefully these will be informative and entertaining and help anyone in determining whether they have an older (original- which I sort of consider anything made before 1953) and the newer pieces. Examining the tooling and detail and comparing them to your piece should be helpful in determining what you have.

I think it's really interesting that Sam seemed to be taking cues from the Art Nouveau/Art Deco period with some of the geometric patterns. Very cool
and a break with tradition.

The craftsmanship is exquisite.

Im looking to buy anything made in the S.D. Myres saddle Co. in EL Paso. If you know of anyone saling something please let me know. Im Alejandro Myres. I live in El Paso. Samuel Myres son Of Uncle Sam is my Grandfather.

I had an S.D. Myers rig for a S&W M1917 that belonged to my grandfather with gun belt, holster, and pouches for half-moon clips. It was stolen on my last move back from Germany in 1991. I had to get pictures and an appraisal I had done in 1985 before I could get its actual value from the Transportation Office. One of their inspectors said, "Well, it was an old holster and gun belt. What could it be worth?" On the whole, I'd rather have the rig back.

more family

Hi,
I put SD Meyers in a Google search and found this thread. This is my first time in a "chat room", so be gentle with me, don't shoot.
My grandmother was Melrose Meyers, Sam was her father. She had one son, my father, I will put a picture of him up as soon as I can, there is a striking family resemblance. I remember my grandmother Melrose talking about Uncle Bill. Don't think I ever met him. Melrose died back in 1982 . My Dad has spoken about an Uncle Bill too and my Dad's name is William. He went as Billy when he was a kid, now he is Will. Lots of Bills in this string of family.
My Dad has a leather suitcase made by S.D Meyers for his daughter Melrose. It is about 24"by 18" and 9" deep and has Melrose's name tooled on the side. I wonder if the museum in Sweetwater would be interested in it. My Dad would like to go on the Antique Roadshow with it. He also has a belt which I am wearing these days.
Thanks for reading my ramblings.
Sincerely,
Alice Hamrick

Family Ties

Well, looks like we are all distant cousins. Cool!

Alice, your grandmother was Mary Melrose Myres? PM me. I'd like to talk to you sometime.

Alejandro, are you the son of Blanche or Robert? PM me.-- I may also have some leads on Myres leatherwork for you, and would like to speak to you sometime as well.

We all have a common set of (Great, Great-great, great-great-great) grandparents: David Rittenhouse Myres (b. 1839) and Mary Jane Dale-Myres (b. 1849) .

My great-grandmother was the elder S.D. Myres' sister-- Annie Earl Myres.

six years later, me and a pile of folk off a board that doesn't even exist anymore have yet to receive word or money or holster from Mr. DuClos when we were foolish enough to do a group buy.....if the original outfit had ever done that, you'd have never heard of them now....giving this thief press on a board should be illegal

I remember that a few of the Sixgunner group buy people actually got their holsters but a lot/most? did not. Do you know the percentages? A lot of people blamed the guy who set up the group buy but apparently, he was making fairly regular visits to the perp who would plead family problems or other priorities and assure that the holster were in process " as we speak.."

As one of those Sixgunner folks...I'm STILL waiting for my Holter, Belt, Cartridge Slides and Ammo Pouch. Mr Duclos took my money for those products and to date has neither delivered the products nor my money back.

No word, NADA, even to the point of refusing registered mail. I had included photocopies of my processed check where HE HAS MY MONEY and no product forthcoming. No ethics in that one.

He was long ago added to the short list of folks whom I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire. Be a waste of good used beer.

There were a few folks who were basically local to Sweetwater, who managed to get their product, albiet very late. Those of us not able to get close enough for long enough to hound him are basically SOL.

He should get NO good press, on this board or any other.

Howdy

When I first got into Cowboy Action Shooting, Dave Duclos was living in my neck of the woods. I bumped into him at a gun show. He made me my first rig and I have been using it ever since so it has some age on it now.

He said he had some sort of family connection to the original SD Myers company through his wife, although I was never clear exactly what the connection was. He was a bit tardy getting my leather to me, but nothing like some of the horror stories I have heard. I needed it by a certain date for a certain match, and the day of the match he showed up at my door and hand delivered my rig to me.

I have been using this rig for about ten years now and it has gotten stained dark, mostly from lots of use and lots of Black Powder residue. But it is very high quality and shows no sign of coming apart after ten years of use. Sorry I don't have a larger photo, but here is a photo of my rig.
