I have a Remington 700, circa 1996-1998 (cant remember the year i purchased it), but I believe it was before the "tactical" series came out. Its got the shorter Bull Barrel, chambered in only 223, but I have no clue how to figure out the twist rate (I have never had successes with the "put a rod in and see how many times it rotates" method). Does anyone have any idea what it is?

just passing on info,
one of the gents on here gave me some very helpfull advice a year ago so im passing it on. take you cleaning rod with a tight patch and mark a dot on it towards the rear, then insert the rod in the bore and watch the dot until it make one full rotation. mark the rod at the barrel and pull it out and messure from the end of the rod to the end of the dot and there you go.
hope this helps
