Well, here we go, another Liikeaboss thread in which you decide through your collective genius how I will progress in my shooting future!!! lol.

So here's the question this week. I will soon be heading down and picking up my very first gun. A brand new CZ75b that I've had on layaway for a while. (Please no "YOU SHOULDA BOUGHT A ______" comments. I've already made my decision! This thread is not about this gun!)

Anyways my question is WHAT'S NEXT?!?! (obviously other than shooting my CZ and having a great time.) Shottie? Rifle? Another handgun? maybe a cheap plinking gun such as a .22 rifle or .22 handgun? maybe a .44 magnum? lol.

Basically THR I'm a blank palette for you to paint on. I've recently discovered the wonderful world of shooting, and I'm ready for more! Oh and laugh if you must but I've only ever fired handguns thus far! (I was at the mercy of my wonderful but unfortunately very anti-gun father most of my life!) So I'm at your mercy to tell me what you think.

Right now I'm considering one of those Hi-point 995's, probably the 9mm version. Could be fun right? No? Well tell me what you think then!!

Thanks in advance guys! I know this will be a fun thread.

Kadet kit for the CZ. Lets you shoot .22 out of it and gets you used to the trigger.

I agreee with phoenix79, if not a kit to shoot 22 from your CZ, at least a .22 rimfire of some sort. Almost the cheapest trigger practice you can get.

Either the cadet kit for the .22 practice or maybe a Smith and Wesson AR platform 22 for some fun rifle shooting. Though the cadet kit would be cheaper because once you own an AR you start buying all the tacticool stuff for it!

Well, since every man, -or woman, needs a good pistol, rifle and shotgun, maybe you should start lookin for a good shottie.

I'd start lookin at these 4:

Remington 870
Mossberg 500
NEF Pardner Pump Protector
Maverick 88

All 12 gauge, preferably, and the more capacity, the better.

Another vote for the Kadet kit. It's like having two guns on the same platform. If you like the 9mm carbine, I'd say get the Beretta cx4 storm. I have one and it's a lot of fun. Or maybe a nice used S&W K frame could be in your future. Whatever you buy, take your time and do your homework. To paraphrase Ben Franklin..."Buy in haste and repent at liesure".

What's the price differential between buying the Kadet conversion vs. just buying a CZ Kadet pistol? Anyone have a bead on this?

Nice choice with the CZ. I don't own one yet, but have shot several and have been impressed each time.

I would definitely outfit what you have before you start putting away for another. (i.e. get a holster, spare mags, etc). However, since that wasn't the point of the post I will give you my opinion which would be to go for a rifle.

Since you just got your first handgun I would shot it to death. Have a fun with it, learn everything you can about it. If you put another handgun on your list your gun lust might blind you to the beauty that you have before you. At least it has with me several times.

That being said, rifle shooting is a whole different game and just as much fun as pistol. I would recommend and .22LR to start out with. Cheap, easy and accurate. My favorite is the Ruger 10/22. Lots of aftermarket parts and pieces to customize it with.

If you are looking to feed the little tacticool kid inside of you, then get into the AR or AK game. I personally love the AR platform and after being into pistols for years, started building my own AR's. They are a fun and relatively simple rifle to work on and shoot. There are lots of good sources for AR info.

Maybe skeet shooting or bird hunting is a fun thing to get into. Heck there are so many different aspects of shooting sports you could spend a lifetime learning. (That's been my plan anyway). I would just enjoy what you have until you see something online or in a shop that just calls your name. After all, all the excitement and research before buying part of the fun.

Every gun collection needs a .22lr pistol and rifle. Good quality weapons, Ruger, Marlin, Mossberg, even Weatherby make great rifles of various prices. Handuns as well can be found at decent prices. Inexpensive ammo encourages practice. A 22lr is always a good choice to add to the collection.

A Ruger 10/22 is a great first rifle. Plus it is a cheap way to enjoy shooting a couple hundred rounds.

An Auto Ordance M1 Carbine is a fun shooter. You can get a brand new one for about $560. It isn't nearly as cheap as a Ruger 10/22, but it can be used to hunt mid sized game and works better for defensive situations.

Seeing you're starting out with a handgun, I'd say a long gun is a good second. .22 rifle is a safe bet, Ruger's 10/22 or the Marlin 60 will both serve you well.

Due to the fact that you now have the gun bug, you won't be able to stop there. Consider a 12 gauge after your rifle, or if you're in the mood for another handgun, a nice wheel gun is a must for any starter collection.

I like to keep cost of ammo as a major consideration with each purchase. Once you get into shooting, your biggest expense will be feeding all your new toys. :)

Definately a long gun. I like .22s for plinking. You can shoot all day and not break the bank. I have a Marlin Model 60 and I would recommend one any day of the week. They're very reasonably priced and mine is extremely accurate.
Welcom to THR and to shooting.
What part of the natural state are you in? I may be able to recommend some good gun shops. I frequent several.

10/22, best rifle I have ever bought I think everyone should own one.

I bought mine in April and I have 7k rounds through it, probably 10k+ by the end of the year. IMHO the best $200 I ever spent, had a blast plinking with it. I think the test of a good rifle is if you have more expensive stuff and leave that at home more, I always bring the 10/22 to the range, not so much with the more exotic stuff. My IP M1 carbine hasn't been shot in 2 years.

They are also tough, I don't really maintain my 10/22 and beat it around at the range. But 7k rounds and it still looks like new. I suspect I will get 10+ years of use out of it at 10k-12k rounds per year.

Dusty, Not a fan of the Glock that I fired (the 19) but I wonder if that's because my noob hands didn't like the compactness? I'll definately shoot the 17 next time I'm at the range.

Any handgun takes a lot of practice.
Aiming, trigger technique etc are best with a 22lr pistol, so buy a conversion or a 22 pistol (kadet, buckmark or ruger mkII) and a lot of ammo.

then make some friends at the range or join a club and try to shoot their toys as much as possible to deside wath you like best, plinking, target, clay, levers or wheels,...

beware, 22lr rifles are addictive and tend to multiply very fast. I have an Anschutz bolt, a marlin 39a lever and a browning sa22 and i like them all.
