Undersized 9MM Flash Holes

I have never had this happen before, and twice today today it has happened, with two different headstamps.

I could feel the force of the decapping pin swaging the undersized flash hole out as I sized the case. (I did not know what it was yet) When I tried to pull the brass down out of the sizer the decapping pin stayed in the case and jammed things up nicely. I sorted out the three other same headstamp cases (only doing 15 cases, and promptly had it happen again with another headstamp.

The offenders were DAG07L0718 9X19SX and S&B NONTOX 07 9X19

It pulled the decapping pin right out of the collet in my Redding sizer. I tried my Lee sizer on a couple and it swaged the hole out and then pulled out OK. You can feel the extra force it takes.

I get rid of S&B brass plated steel by using a large magnet to pick them out of range brass. Now I have to look for these, as well as the occasional berdan primed case I pick up accidentally. Arghh.

I had the same problem with a bunch of Speer .357 Sig brass. about every 10 cases it would pull the decapping pin out (RCBS)

Wound up chucking one up in the drill and turning it down with a stone until the problem stopped
 
Both my sets of 9MM dies are Lee and I have not noticed any problems with my brass at all but have not looked at the head stamps to see if I have any of the offenders in my bucket yet. Thank you for the heads up.

I have found that flash holes are all over the place as far as diameter goes. It is a very easy fix with an RCBS case prep center. Often this is taking a fair amount of material out to make a uniform flash hole. It is quick and easy with power tools.

Walkalong, for those head stamp cases, could you drill out the flash hole before you deprimed?

considering the huge volume of 9mm cases on the floor at most ranges, I'd just chuck them if I had a consistent problem with a head stamp or two.

Personally, I don't check head stamps, so 'll probably be in Walkalong's position some day and pull the decapping pin out if I have one of these pieces. Kinda hard to tell on the down stroke considering that S&B are usually tighter than most in the 1st place since they seal the primers.
 
I saw the thread title and the first thing that I thought of was that darn "DAG" headstamp. When I first started reloading 9mm, a friend of mine gave me more than 5,000 empties and there was about 300 of those DAG shells mixed in. I sat on the couch and put on my opti-visor so I could see the headstamps, and sort every single shell. The plan is to drill them out for when I shoot gluelets(bullets cast from hot glue) in the garage. They only use a primer to propel them and the flash holes need to be drilled anyway.

Could you elaborate more on the gluelets? Sounds like a riot
 
I don't want to hijack the thread, so this is where NAGS(National Association of Glue Shooters) got its start. http://castboolits.gunloads.com/showthread.php?t=17577
I cast my gluelets in my regular molds without using the sprue plate. After it hardens I use a utility knife to cut the excess glue by slicing along the top of the mold. I put all of the gluelets in a bag and add enough oil to lube them and I shake the bag until they're all coated, some guys just smear them with white lithium grease. Flash holes have to be opened to 1/8 inch, just prime a shell and push in a gluelet. I hang a target on a cardboard box filled with rags, and yes the gluelets are reusable.
 
Walkalong, drill out those flash holes and mold some 9mm gluelets for your EMP!

I wonder what kind of shot groups you would get at like 3-5 yards?

Might be good "less than lethal rounds" for pesky stray cats that use the lawn as litter box. :D
 
I do not have a 9MM mold any more. I gave it away. Should have kept it. I do still have a .44 and a .45 mold. I should have kept the 9MM mold.
