Bear hunting

Have Environmentalist go camping and be dumb about food storage.Wait,that's still using bait.

Im assuming Black bear? If so here are some simple steps to increase chances of sucess.

NEVER hunt Bear alone.
NEVER Hunt bear without a sidearm capable of making an effective kill in one shot at a distance of no less than 50 yards.
ALWAYS practice with your sidearm before hunting bear, it is your lifeline if something fast and dangerous happens.
ALWAYS bring first aid when out hunting bear (or any animal for that matter) its just common sense and may save a life.

Stalking is probably the single most effective method for taking bear. It is also the most dangerous. In my experience hunting bear is having the bear hunt you, theres simply no way around this because a bears sense of smell is so keen. However this does not mean that a bear will see you before you see it and that is your window to take a shot. As soon as a bear sees what it smells its simplistic brain clicks the two senses together into one overpowering drive for food. Just remember it needs both your scent and a valid line of sight to consider you as food (which it almost always will). Rob the bear of the chance to see you and you have the edge. Good luck

One method is to find a natural food source that they are feeding on, then silently still hunt through the area with the wind in your face. Black bears commonly feed on acorns, beach nuts, apples and berries.

You may also try a predator call. If using this method, be careful. The bear will often come in at a run and is expecting to find a prey animal to eat, so will be in predatory mode. Have another hunter along as back-up.

You can hunt black bear alone all you want (unless using predator call). Otherwise how could anyone elk hunt, deer hunt, etc etc...when there are bears around? OH NOES!...It's being in grizzly country alone that's not the best idea. So don't overreact. And screw everything that guy said about sidearm proficiency, too. You're probly hunting with a rifle, so just be good enough with said rifle! Carry a revolver if you want, not a bad idea for backup, but it's not a miracle tool.

Black bears don't hunt you. Awful words of "advice." Black bears are rightly fraidy cats, for the most part, and leave when they smell you. That's the their best sense - smell. So you can see one, but eventually there's a chance it'll smell you if you're not careful, and run off. Sure, watch that bear to see if it's a sow with cubs, and there's the tiny chance it's an insane bear...but that's life in the woods.

Just wander around and look for bear scat, look for the food sources...right now the berry rush is on here, and there are bears all around, they get very casual...just get out and have fun learning as you go. Carry bear spray and be a man, find them with your eyes...

Look for natural feed sources and set up a tree stand or other blind near a trail they use to get to the food - then wait until one shows up. Or, find a high point overlooking the sunny side of a ravine with water in it and watch for movement.
