Theory to change fat into steel!

Dnaltrop, I agree with you, Soda is hard to quit! Coffee on the other hand is harder to stop! Thats my opinion at least! Had to cut back due to reflux, so I fill the cup one-quarter full and fill the rest with water and put a decaf coffee single bag in it to help with the taste! It helps the reflux!

Diets do not work!

Yes diets do not work. Yes you will lose weight, but 95 out of 100 times you will gain it all back and usually some extra as well.

If you want to lose weight and keep it off you have to change the habits that caused you to gain the weight. Fifty pounds in a year is a good long term goal, but without setting some short term goals you are setting yourself up for failure. For example, try setting a short term goal of 5 pounds in the first two weeks. Should be very attainable and give you the motivation to do better.

For now you should eat zero fast food and cut out soda completely. An easy way to cut back your calorie intake is during meal time DO NOT CONTINUE TO EAT UNTIL YOU ARE FULL. Instead eat until you are no longer hungry. There is nothing wrong with eating meat, but just eat smaller portions and more veggies. Make sure you eat at least three smaller meals a day, preferably four or five and that will speed up your metabolism

You're going to snack so make sure you have some healthy snacks. Also know that it is alright to treat yourself from time to time. Being realistic will also set you up for success.

Recent studies have also shown that drinking a glass of cold water within one hour of waking up will speed up your metabolism. If you go to or join a gym you should get a personal trainer/ nutritionist and they will be able to help you greatly in obtaining your goal and new gun.

For some more motivation, losing weight will make your penis bigger.

Best of luck.

Shawn

P.S. If you want another CC pistol, I am absolutely crazy about my Kahr CW9

ATBackpackin, I am already doing as you say! (weight loss) Dealing with the Kahr, I was told by a gun shop that the Kahr is a fine gun but if I took it to the range and ran 50 rounds through it my arms would be tired because of the lateral kick! Is this true, have you had this problem or not?

I can honestly say that I have never had that problem. That is one of the reasons I like this gun so much because I can practice with it a lot. I can put 150 rounds down range in an hour with that gun and not be sore at all and I'm no pro. I did add a Hogue Handall Jr. to give me a little more grip and found that to help a little. I think my finger would get tired before I could get sore. I have all the confidence in world in this gun.

The best part about this pistol is that you can absolutely make it disappear on you without having to dress around it. For the money it's hard to beat IMO.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress.

Shawn

When you grow up, you'll understand how marriage works.

What kind of awful women are you guys marrying? My wife wouldn't dream of telling me not to purchase another gun. I don't think she even knows how many I have, and I know she doesn't care. (She could open the safe and count, but she doesn't bother).

Thanks, this is info I am looking for! As of now the Beretta PX4 Storm Subcompact is on the top of the list and Glock 26 with pinkie extension is running 2nd. After reading your reply I will take another look at the Kahr, it is by far less expensive than the Beretta and Glock! Yesterday I had a Doctor's appointment with regular Md (blood work) and Dermatologist (skin cancer checkup) so in between the 2 office visits I did some pricing around on both guns! Looks like $560 (out the door) is going to be the best price at a dealer. But when ready I will check a gun show and check the prices there! By the way I checked my weight this morning and I was at 257. 2 pounds in water was lost, very light dinner and 40 minutes of cardio seemed to help. So that makes it 10 pounds in 3 weeks so far! Heat in the upper 90's and heat index in the low 100's with humitidy around 60% also helped with the water loss! Got to LOVE Florida!! :)

harmon rabb, it's called being married and that usually means it's both our money not just one of ours! We discuss things before we buy, which I know you know what I mean! :)

Honestly, neither of us really discusses things before we buy unless they're particularly expensive. We generally live pretty cheaply, so this isn't really an issue.

if you lose 50lbs you could probablly fit both new guns iwb in your old pants :). if you are looking for a cc weapon in 9mm the walther p99 is not a bad choice, personally I recomend a gen 4 glock 19, I'm quite partial to it, it fits my hand even better then my 3rd gen in that it has a smaller grip frame and a larger magazine release. I got mine for 540, but keep in mind it just came out and you may be able to get one cheaper by the time you lose the 50lbs.

Button,

Don't know how much of a coffee addict you are, but it's the one that won't be lost in this household.

As to the acid, Have you tried roasting your own from Green beans?

I've been turning them in a Whirley pop stovetop-popcorn popper for 4 years now, takes about 15-20 minutes every 1-2 weeks depending on how large of a batch I do versus Household use (3 heavy adult drinkers)

I've managed to find a few (it's all seasonal) that I can jump between that generally are very smooth on the guts. I can even manage some of them straight Black without killing myself.

We go through about 16 lbs every 6-8 weeks here, averages $6/7 a lb (including shipping) + the intangible bonus of enjoying your own hard work in the morning. there are a few companies but we get through "Sweet Marias"

The down side is the LARGE volume of smoke it produces in your kitchen. Up side is at least if you have to drink scorched coffee, you are doing it to teach yourself a lesson because you screwed it up yourself

Honestly, it's really just too easy, and used to be commonplace before vaccum-sealed cans of pre-ground Coffee.

Keep a pitcher cold on hand now, it's better than another hit of corn syrup, will get you those guns faster.

Thanks all for the incouragement and advice! I usually drink my coffe at work and the company supplies it! So it's not really an issue. I take Nexium for the reflux, but not on a regular basis. I was thinking about the Glock 19c but decided it was just a little to big for concealed carry compared to the Beretta px4 subcompact.

Just an update, as of today I am now at 255.6 lbs. (started at 267) and it's been now as of Tuesday 5 weeks. I need an honest opinion, I am stuck trying to decide between the Glock 26 and the Beretta PX4 Storm sub-compact. I can get the Glock for $398 + tax and the Beretta for $446 + tax.

Get the weight off and keep it off for a year. This is way more important to your life, and your wife's, than any pistol. Save your money in the meantime, then buy them both.

Mike PGS, I did look into the M&P 9c, I can get it for $498 + tax. I have been looking into the M&P SD (self defense) in 9mm, it's a little bit cheaper! It just seems to me Smith & Wesson tend to love there guns a little to much for my taste! They want to nickle and dime there customers to death, that just does not sit to well to me! Domineaux, can you explain what G419 is? I did a google search for G419 and all I get is paint decorations!

The SD is basically a Sigma with a front night sight, nothing wrong with that, but you'd probably save money getting the basic Sigma and sights separately. Wife loves hers, gritty, horrible trigger pull and all. It shoots well for me.

Oh yes, I was scraping 290 around '97. took a few years but have been bouncing between 205-220 for the last decade. Once the habits are ingrained, it gets a lot easier.

Sorry Button, by G419 I meant the Gen 4 (specifically due to the changeable back-strap to ensure a comfy fit) Glock 19.

Glock 26 with pinkie extension is running 2nd.

I have a G27 w/ two "pinky extension" equipped mags, a standard flat base mag, and a G22 full sized mag. The pierce equipped mags are always left in the safe now. For carry, I now only use the standard flat mag w/ the G22 mag in the off pocket.

If you go with the Glock, carry it with the standard mag for awhile before you buy the pierce grip extension. IMO, they do nothing to add to shootability, and that little hook gets in the way more than you might think. I would rather have a G19 than a G26 w/ the extension; their is really no difference in carry utility between them unless you stick to the flat base.

Good luck on the diet; I have dropped 23lbs in 9 weeks on Jenny Craig. Wife says I can buy the Corvette when I get all the weight off! For those who think it is ridiculous to get spousal buy-in for these purchases, let me state two things. First, I could buy the car without her OK, but she would guarantee I would never enjoy it. Second, I like sex & her willingness in that regard is useful. Of course, with the vette & a new slim me..........

Excellent plan and great for your health. Keep posting your losses here for your 'support group' to see and cheer you on...and hold you to it if you begin to slip!

I'll support the recommendation for the Kahr CW9. Very slim, good trigger, easy to shoot and easy to conceal. I like to carry either it or a S&W 638 Snubbie. Either conceals amazingly well.

Keep up the great work!

Paul

I have been playing also with the Glock 19 compensated. I have to check on what price I can get it for! I thought it was just a little to big for concealed carry, but will borrow a friends (which is not compensated) and take to the range and see how I like the feel and how it feels concealed. i want to carry small of back in the pants, due to i think it will be easier to conceal in the void of the lower back. already made a holster for my SR9c and really can not tell it's there! thanks for the support group and i still have time to make up my mind!

Now that medication cost $$$. Improve yourself so you don't need those meds and think of all the bills you will not pay!

This is absolutely correct thinking. I'm self employed so I fund my own HSA for my family which is basically very high deductable catastrophic insurance. You have a tendency to take better care of yourself when you pay for your own medication and office visits. Our current co-pay culture is the cause of a lot of our nation’s health problems.

Hurrah!!

Button--Keep at it! You're losing big time, which makes you a real winner. :D Keep up the exercise--mostly cardio but some weight machines won't hurt either.

I gotta brag: I started @ 240 and am down to 215 this a.m. Diet and exercise, diet and exercise. But all is not roses @ Chez Smokey Joe--pistol league starts next week, and today went to the range and it seems I've forgotten everything I ever learned about a steady hold. Oh, well, it'll come back with time and more practice I suppose.

Goal is 190--I want to get back into shape to do the American Birkebeiner cross-country ski race this winter. My coach assures me that losing the last 10 pounds will be sheer hell.

Anyhow, Button, keep on disappearing--we're all pulling for you! :)
