What do I need?

I'd suggest a pump shotgun. Or perhaps an AR-type rifle. Since you live in the city in an apartment, maybe a 9mm version would be best. Rock River Arms makes a nice one. If you hunt, a more powerful centerfire rifle (perhaps a bolt-action with a scope) would also be nice.

I would think that is more than all you "need" I would think that the only thing absolutely necessary is your 9mm pistol, with some decent and reliable hollow point ammo for home defense. Especially if you don't have the ability to get a carry permit.

Recomendations for a gun are meaningless if we don't have any idea of what you want to accomplish.

What do you want to? Once we know that, narrowing down the choices is a lot easier.

Otherwise, just get a Howda Pistol.

At a miniumum I would want to have
Pistol in .38, 9mm or .40 (you have this covered and except for hunting this is all you need)
12 gauge pump shotgun (lots of fun and best in a SHTF scenario)
.223 semi-auto that can accept a detachable magazine and a few extra magazines (for Liberty)

You NEED one of everything.

Seriously....uh....a 12 bore pump gun would be a good addition. Ideally one of the 870's or a Mossberg 500 with a 28 inch barrel and screw in chokes....as well as an 18 inch barrel for social purposes.

Keep your eyes peeled for the pawn shops or gun shows. An older gun that takes 2 3/4 shells is fine. You DON'T need magnums. If you find a Magnum gun..okay...but don't let a shorter chamber sqelch the deal on a nice pump.

There are a lot of guys that sell off early guns because they want to run steel shot...or it doesn't have screw in tubes or isnt' a MAGNUM...or better yet...it isn't a 3.5 inch MAGNUM. Snap those deals up.

My last 870 is a 1957 3'' magnum gun with 30 inch barrel...I paid $125.00 out the door. Shoots like a house o' fire. It isn't perfect...looks okay... and for that money...ya can't beat them.

Well first of all what guns interest you? You have 3 handguns and possibly a lever action rifle in .30-30. Are you looking at something for home defense, hunting, competition, collecting, plinking, etc. Maybe you could give us some more info on what you previously owned and what direction you want to take now. Plus maybe an idea on how much you have to spend would help as well.

Too vague but I would agree he needs a shotgun even a NEF single shot is better than nothing, not to mention pretty easy on the wallet.

Get yourself a .357 revolver and a 12ga pump shotgun.

Most "useful" setup you could have in a city apartment... I think anyway.

I live in a city apartment and the only thing I don't have is a good revolver.

Anyway, it's not so much about what you need as it is about what you want and can afford. Buying used isn't like buying a used car. Takes a great deal of abuse to damage a modern firearm.

JTHunter beat me to it. In that thread, look for the posts that list LESS than ten guns. Given what you have already, I would add a 12 gauge pump shotgun next ... but that's just me.
