For those that have more than one revolver

The reason I ask is because I want to get one final revolver! yes, a FINAL one. No more. So I want to see what people with a huge collection will recommend.

First of all, it's silly and needless to limit yourself like that.

Secondly, it all depends what you want/need the gun to do for you.

Thirdly, would you keep any other guns? If so, what? Why? Any overlap of function with a revolver?

I'd keep two:

Colt Peacemaker .22 (my first handgun) and my S&W Model 29 with 6" barrel.

I won't list them, but I would never be without my S&W md 36 chiefs special. I would keep it even thou I have a GP100 and a SP101 Ruger.

Is this supposed to be a realistic scenario? Threads like this baffle me.

If you had to keep just one...........it aint happening.

I play musical chairs with my guns, but here are the revolvers I currently have:

2" Ruger SP101 in .357
4" Colt Python
S&W model 642 Airweight

If I had to have just one, it would be a 3" SP101 or 3" Smith model 60. They're small enough for daily wear, yet heavy enough to shoot all day comfortably.

If I could only have two, they would be Smith's model 642 and some variant of their model 17. The 642 would cover daily carry, while the 17 would be for plinking and small game hunting. (I'd also settle for the Ruger LCR and Charter Arms Target Pathfinder over the Smiths if money became an issue.)

Only one...

.357 magnum Ruger GP100 with 4.2" barrel

If I lived in Grizzly territory,

.45 colt Ruger Redhawk with 4.2" barrel

One only?

If I had to pick, it would be any SW 3" .357 mag/.38 spl.
(Rugers are just as good; I just started with SW, so will go with them.)

Right now, that would be my 65.

Second pick: .38 spl snub nose.

Ask me tomorrow and I may reverse the priority.

Currently own: Model 66 4 inch, Model 18
Have owned: Model 60, 640, 66 2.5 inch, Singe Six, Webley Mk VI, variety of small antiques in .32 & .38 S&W.
Have shot: Model 19, 65, 28, 586, 686, 625, 25, 29, couple of Dan Wessons, bunch of Webleys, SP101, GP100, Colt Python.

Would keep: Model 18.

If restricted to two revolvers, then the Model 18 & 686 Plus Pro.

What do you want this revolver for?

Your question is like asking, "What kind of a vehicle should I get?"

If you want it to haul lumber and feed, a pickup truck is the answer. If you want to haul kids to soccer or baseball games, you need a minivan. If you want to pick up chicks, a sports car is the answer.

For general purpose use, a .357 is close to ideal. You can shoot light .38 special loads for small game and target hunting, choose 125-grain full-charge loads for self-defense, or go to 158 grain loads or better for deer and hogs.

For hunting deer-sized critters, a .44 Magnum or a .45 Colt would be better, with many people choosing a single action revolver. For concealed carry, a small, light revolver would be best, and you would probably shoot .38 Specials through it, even if it was a .357.

For learning to shoot, small game hunting, loafing around in the woods, a .22 revolver would be ideal.

I've got a Colt Army Special in .32-20, a S&W Model 29 and a Dan Wesson 14-2.

If I could only keep one it would be the Colt because it was my great grandfather's roscoe.

if you can only KEEP one out of all the revolvers you have, WHICH ONE?!

TexasGunbie...you sound like my current wife asking me which of my girlfriends I would keep if I cold only keep one.

Like I told her...FORGET IT!!! NOT GONNA HAPPEN!!!

S&W's :
Model 29 6"
Model 17 6"
Model 19 4"
Model 686 4"

Colts :
Python 6"
Police Positive 4"
Det Spl 2"
Trooper 4"

If I could only keep one it would be the Python because I can shoot it better than anything else.

You are getting one FINAL revolver?

yeah ok..............and let me know if elvis can get me front row seats for the live buddy holly performance on his birthday, tuesday, sept 7?:neener:

2.75" Ruger Speed Six .38 Special
4" Colt Python, Royal Blue finish .357 Mag
2.5" Ruger SRH Alaskan .44 Mag

I'd miss looking at the Python but I'd miss shooting the 44 even more, so I'd have to keep the Alaskan. I never did find the 357 all that fun to shoot, in fact I sold my GP100 and SP101 not too long ago, but I did pick up the Python just recently, it's so damn sexy looking and accurate I'd hate to ever have to sell it.

I don't need to list my others to answer this one. It would be a stainless four-inch Ruger GP100 .357. The one to have when you're only having one.

If I could have two, one would be a stainless three-inch GP100 .357, and the other would be a 5.5-inch Redhawk in .44 mag. Reloading for these two would allow me to range from plinking with light .38-velocity loads up to big game hunting with heavy .44s.

And if I added a third? Probably a Single Six convertible.

I'm hesitant to list my collection. But if I could only keep one it would be my 4" S&W Model 10-5.

It's accurate, almost as old as me, simple ( fixed sights), and just reliable.

For personal protection and putting meat on the table my Ruger 3" GP-100 hands down. If I were in a place that I would need to also protect myself from larger 4 legged predators or the meat was of the larger variety, my 4" Ruger Redhawk in .41mag will do the deed.

A Keeper

3.5" Smith & Wesson N-frame model 27-2 .357 magnum

All original, in wooden presentation case with doc's and unused tools.

*The cylinder HAS NEVER BEEN rotated on this revolver~! ;) :D

** Not bragging by any stretch, but I own many more that I am equally
proud of; as it's taken a very long time, and a few $$$$$ to put this nice
collection together.
