overall i like him but i take what he says with a grain of salt. i believe there is still some info worth gleaning though. i will try & check out some of hickok45's videos, this is the first i've heard of him.

I have to agree that NutnFancy is long winded and not exactly to the point in his videos but if you just put the relavant review information into the video it would be pretty good.

There are a lot of people that seem to hate Nutnfancy. I have watched a few of his reviews and he seems to have a genuine enthusiasm for shooting and advancing 2A rights in the US. He does dwell a bit on things and over uses the word "tactical" and dresses in camo for no particular reason.

Watching his review helped me to choose my SR9 (one VERY reliable pistol) as he said it compares favorably to the Glock 17(what he considers the Holy Grail).

Since he is not paid by manufacturers(I believe this to be true) he can give you a more objective opinion.

My advice for people that hate Nutnfancy, don't watch his videos. No one is forcing anyone to watch them.
How's the trigger on the SR9?

+1 on the not taking his tactical advice, but even from a gun user standpoint some of his tacticool info is usable in other ways

he calls heavy steel lined knives bad for edc but tactically sound, me i hear that and think "well torque on my blade wont be an issue should i employ it as a pry bar today" or when he says a gun is barrel heavy and too big for edc i hear "this gun could be used for target shooting!"

take his info outside the box and you realize what hes saying applies to anyone

I like him enough that he influenced me to end my hatred of the 9mm. I did get tired of the "But it's not a Glock 17" thing in his videos but I guess there is a point to be said about comparing a reviewed gun to something as a benchmark. Besides in one video (I forget which) he stated he wasn't going to compare everything to the Glock 17 anymore (realizing that it may not be the best idea) and he has since stopped.

His focus on weight also puzzled me but we all have our "key issue" when it comes to measuring things of value to us.

But honestly at his core he covers a lot of stuff we can agree on. Having a prepared, armed society, the two types of cool, and the passion for the second amendment and outdoors. You at least have to give him points for his sincerity in his endeavors.

He's very good at what he does in his videos.

Now when I say that, I don't really compare him with experts in the field of firearms, like Mas Ayoob or Clint Smith. What I'm saying is that compared to WEBSHOWS in general, he does a very good job, and I'm comparing him to guys who, in some cases make a living off of their webshows.

He is probably some of the best unscripted video content out there.

I personally think his voice grates a little bit, but at the same time he's also fun to listen to, and even when he goes off on a tangent, it's usually something interesting. He's ALMOST at the point where even if you aren't interested in the subject matter, his show is still fun to watch.

This pretty much sums it up...

If you frequent any gun/gear/outdoors forums, websites, or even just banter at your local gun shop you likely have heard the name Nutnfancy. If you haven't, Nutnfancy is a gear reviewer of sorts that makes videos which he posts to YouTube. His name has come up even more recently as some other people that also do gear reviews have called his qualifications into question. Before we look at that I'll say this: YouTube is a cesspool, probably one of the worst places on the internet. Some may say certain anonymous imageboards are worse, but simply reading a few YouTube comments or watching a "reaction video" (essentially someone filming them self reading their comment) will give you an all new contempt for the human race, as well as lowering your IQ by a few points. That being said I avoid YouTube at all costs and up until last week I hadn't seen a Nutnfancy video, but with an unusual 2 weeks of rain banishing me indoors I set out to watch this guy and weigh in on the controversy.

A first glance at his account and I see this guy has made nearly 600 videos, and on a huge variety of subjects. The first one that caught my eye was his AK-47 vs AR-15 series, and since I weighed in on it recently I figured it would be interesting to see how his opinion differs. I open the video and it's 20 minutes, and there are 5 parts, essentially making this a full length feature film. I vowed to give it a chance though so I fought the urge to close it immediately and started watching. "Nutnfancy" is certainly accurate, I expected someone with 600 videos to be using at least a half decent HD flipcam and a copy of Premiere or Finalcut, but this looks closer to something you might see on America's Funniest Home Videos edited with two betamax decks. I suppose this isn't nearly as important as the content but if making these videos was my job I would put a little more in the production values. Luckily the camera stays on the tripod most of the time only 10% or so turns into the Blair Witch Project.
As the video rolls on, the first few minutes he starts telling the viewers not to argue in the comments on the page, and talks about why he doesn't frequent "the forums" anymore (I assume he means Arfcom, THR, and OpChan). How anyone could prefer the YouTube comments page is beyond me, Nutnfancy is starting to look like he is a full blown hysterical Youtuber....

I like him. Perfect reviewer? Who knows, but his presentations have information to consider and everyone has their take on life. His investment in time and effort to review exceeds mine or any person here. It seems odd to me that his critics here are so time bound that they can't mush through his reviews, but can spend hours a week surfing forums with less content than a nutnfancy video.

Maybe right this moment, but im throwing up reviews and am working with my local shop where i buy a lot of stuff to let me do reviews of their equipment. Otherwise its just too much to purchase and as you can see, thats what he does. Not to mention i find it wrong to review a gun that you have no first hand experience with other than fondling it on the counter of a gun shop. There is surely a learning curve and i respect what he does because it is not easy.

Well, to be honest... you get better info from AR15.com, THR, 1911 forums and a few others.

people choose what they want to see and believe, and most now adays just want quick visual information so they turn to youtube. Problem is youtube has all sorts of characters that are just like writers for gun rags. Like Nutin, his benchmark of the Glock 17... the glock 17 is a fine firearm but there are different guns for different situations. The answer is not always "Glock 17"... and its sad to see someone who can reach so many people brainwash them with such information.

I respect what he does and the time he invests, but people need to think for themselves and shoot a lot of different stuff before they buy and not just listen to some yahoo on the internet... yes, forums too...

Truthfully, I find his reviews to be pretty helpful. Yes, they're largely subjective, but they also are detailed enough that you can take or leave what you want.

In general, I find that you can glean a lot more useful information from his reviews than from the magazine reviews written by the vaunted Gods of Shooting. These dudes may be great shooters and they may have a lot of expertise, but a lot of them seem to have an inflated opinion of themselves and don't work very hard at writing useful, critical articles, leading to vacuous reviews that impart little useful information.

I find nutnfancy videos to be helpful for the most part. He's no expert, but he's a pretty knowledgeable guy. I can only take his voice for so long, and sometimes he goes off on wild tangents and drones on and on. Mostly good videos none the less, gotta give the guy credit for trying.

So true. They often don't tell me anything more than I could have learned form the manufacturer's website.

I like Nutnfancys vids. In fact he has saved me some money, and saved me from some bad choices when I was newer and less experienced.

I don't agree with him on everything, but he's close enough usually, and a positive influence to the gun community.

He's trying, and he's learning just like alot of us are. Shoot, alot of us started with some kind of lame Fudd gun just like he did. I get a kick out of his older vids, when he still thought Mini14's were cool. LOLz.

......but this thread really highlights one thing. None of ya'll really have vids any better. If you do, heres a good place to post some.

ps: Hickock45 rules. I get a kick out of his range with steel plates that bounce rounds right back at him, usually poofing in the dirt at his feet. That cracks me up every time.

Nutnfancy is not someone who I'd want to have a beer with. I think it's because of his nutty "sheep dog" philosophy. After I subscribed to Hickok45's video, I stopped watching Nut'y.

AWorthyOpponent, your quote from that site claims his job is to make these videos, is this true? I could have sworn he did this all during him free time.

"but if making these videos was my job I would put a little more in the production values"

I find most of his stuff entertaining. I don't always agree with him, but I can say the same about every other person on the planet.

Where else are you going to see a guy doing a run-and-gun with a Mosin Nagant and a Tokarev who isn't being sneered and laughed at?

I find that he provides a useful service, whether I agree with each opinion of his or not. I also appreciate the commitment to what he does. Overall I find him most helpful when I can take a look at an in-depth review of something I'm considering buying; I haven't really gotten into too many of his more philosophically-oriented videos.
