What's the Scoop on Gibbs 1903-A4 Reproduction Rifle?...

My understanding is that the Gibbs' guns are refurbished receivers that came from "drill-rifles"; so i assume someone at some point demoted them from the 'battle rifle' rack...so i conclude there might be some metallurgy or something that was suspect.

AIM surplus has them; presumably they're shooters, but i'm holding out for an original myself.

Desidog's description is accurate, however the reports I've heard (about a dozen) have all been positive for function and accuracy. I wouldn't mind having one.

I wouldn't mind owning one and buying putting a 4x scope on it for hunting. :)

I like it! I would love to have a shooter 03 rifle. I have a collector 03 rifle that I have never fired but the temptation has been great. All that keeps me from putting a few rounds through it is the thought of loss of value in on it. Maybe I should get one of the Gibbs rifles to take the temptation away.

I have a Gibbs Enfield carbine that was punched out to .308 and had a black plastic stock put on. It's accurate, fit and finish are good, feels solid, and you can't tell that it's not actually a new gun. If I had the money and the need, I'd buy one of those 03's and wouldn't think twice about it.

Thanks gents for the helpful replies. Looks like I'm going to have to be working a bit of OT to pay for a new rifle...;)
