Picked up a new SR9 this past monday! Due to financial issues, it is the first firearm I have owned in 6 years. Took it to the range Tuesday, ran 100 rounds of PMC through it and I loved it! It shot flawlessly! Trigger is a little rough, but it should break in just fine!

I was worried about getting denied (NON US citizen, nervous etc), but the entire process was less than an hour, including getting delayed after filling out the 4473!!

Thanks to B&T Shooting in Middleburgh Hts for your great help and support!

I have one also, my team that worked for me bought it for me a year ago. I love it.

I am a 1911 guy (have 2) and the SR9 feels like a 1911. But I have to admit to shooting a 9mm instead of a 45.

Congrats. Nice to have some cold steel ( and plastic) back in the home. You and yours can sleep better now.

Ain't America great? Now dig up some cash to donate to GOA & or NRA, because without them you wouldn't have been able to purchase a firearm at all, regardless of citizenship. Congrats on your purchase....

Been an NRA member for 13 years. Never gave it up, even when I didn't own a gun.

I will remove the mag safety, but some searching online seemed indicate that it was 50-50 on improving the trigger. Anyone have any othe tips on smoothing it out?

As with any new gun, shoot the heck out of it before doing any mods. Once you have shot it enough, you will then know what, if anything, needs to be done. Good luck and congrats.

My first handgun was a SR9. Liked the gun but after shooting it some we decided the grip didn't quite fit my hand or the wife's. I sold it to a friend who loves it. The trigger on my SR9 was a little gritty at first but was showing marked improvement after about 225 rounds.

Yeah, shoot it, a lot! The SR9 has a reputation for poor triggers, likely you'll just have to learn to live with it, or not...

I have put about 2k rounds through mine in the last year since I bought it, and I can't say enough great things about this Ruger! They are the absolute slimmest profile, full-size 9mm double stack you will find. They are highly concealable with the right holster, and their reliability is excellent, I have not had ONE failure, and I shoot mostly reloads. The only complaint I have is the sights are fairly narrow and not the best for my failing eyesight. I see that XS big dot now makes a site for this pistol and will likely be trying that in the very near future. I got my brand new SR9 for under $400, as far as I'm concerned, you cannnot beat this gun for anywhere near that price point. Enjoy!!

I know that place. Thats crazy all the people in all the world. And this guy is buying firearms from somewhere I know.

Have a SR9 myself. My wife and I love the way it shoots. You just have to adapt to to any handgun you own.

can you elaborate in how the magazine disconnect removal will improve your trigger pull?
All I can figure the is the minor weight difference that would result in the slide movement.

Thanks

I fixen to install the Ghost Ultimate and was thinking of doing the MC while I'm into it.

Congratulations spelsh-There is a ton of information on SR9's at Rugerforum.com. There is also a company named Galloway Precision that has started making some aftermarket parts for the SR9's. Eric Galloway posts at rugerforum also.

All I can figure the is the minor weight difference that would result in the slide movement.

The striker is forced to directly act on the magazine safety, slightly pushing it up into the slide. The problems are: It's under spring tension, it's not a smooth part, and the recess it goes into collects crap which makes for a heavy gritty pull in no time.

Not to mention dry firing with the magazine safety in place with no magazine the striker shoulder peens on the mag block. It's crap, and needs to go. Period.

Well, I can't fully agree after digging into it but I don't intend to argue with you.

The way I see it is that these are two different functions, trigger pull and striker slide.
The magazine disconnect can rub against the striker but this is after the trigger is pulled, is it not?.
I can see less friction would result between the mag disconnect and the striker and the other result would be being able to fire the pistol with or without the magazine. Both being benefits of course.

Polishing the trigger mechanisms and using Ghost Inc. parts would, IMO, be the best route to improving trigger pull.
I'll try a before and after test to satisfy my curiosity.

Thanks for your input.

You'll be amazed what a few hundred rounds will do to the trigger. Then I installed a Ghost bar and even more improvement. I can't say that I noticed much by removing the mag block. Maybe a little.

congrats on the sr9. i have one too. fantastic gun . great price for what you get, tough, very reliable, pretty cheap to feed and 100 percent backed by Ruger for life. easy to shoot fairly well also. your trigger will be fine after you put a few boxes of ammo through it. unless you are doing some sort of precision bullseye competition, i would not mess with it. thanks for keeping up with your NRA membership.
