If you had an over/under, and only got to have 3 chokes for it, which ones would you choose? assuming you were never going to use it for turkey or goose but mostly skeet and hand thrown birds in a pasture? mod, skeet 1, and skeet 2?

I might someday get more, but starting off I'm on a budget. I'm having a cheap old double tapped for chokes. currently it's choked full/xfull. I have other guns for broader use. This is just a toy I'm trying to contain costs on.

Cylinder, IC, MOD. With these 3 chokes you can shoot your clays, and take almost all game birds found in North America. Steel shot patterns best with Mod vs Full. If you need full (for wild flushing pheasants) you can pick up a tube from carlson or briley for under $20.
Have fun!

Skeet1 and Skeet 2 for, well, skeet shooting and thrown birds.
These do quite well on upland game critters out to 30 yards too.

Probably print a pretty decent pattern with steel shot also but limit shooting to 40 yards/meters maximum.

I would just have the chokes opened to sk1 and sk2 and forgo the D&T. Cheaper and it would handle all but trap/sporting clays and waterfowl/turkey. Plus it doesn't alter the appearance of an older gun by having the ugly choke tubes in the muzzle. You can always have it D&T for choke tubes later if you want to do more with it. Plus you could do the job yourself with an adjustable reamer and a inside micrometer. I've done it with a chadwick and trefethen reamer and it's very easy. Just go slow.

RSV that's a pretty good option now that I think about it. I never change chokes in my other guns, and it saves me some money to put toward something else some day. mike orlan will open up a choke for $35 each, do you know of another guy who might do better/cheaper work?

Imp Cyl & Mod for hand thrown clays should work fine.

Or Sk #1 & SK #2 if the thrower is slower and you can bust them in close.

I find very little use for Full choke in any hunting situation when using modern shot-cup shells, except for turkeys.

I have killed hundreds of pheasent & quail over the years with an A-5 browning Imp Cyl.

My shot to kill ratio about doubled or more when I stopped using the Full choke barrel on pheasants about 30 years ago.

full choke is my favorite for turkey i use super full the thing is to pattern your gun with differnt chokes and shells to see what it does best with, i have seen guns pattern better with a more open choke it all depends on what your using the shotgun for

I use full and modified in my O/U 20ga. I shoot the modified better, but the full does come in handy... for live birds.

I used modified exclusively for skeet
