HK P30 or Sig 229

I would go with the P30. It is completely ambidextrous, and will run dry. It is a nice modern design.
BTW, Sigs are nice too.

Sig. My personal preference--I've never even handled a P30.

I have a P30 and I have other Sigs. The P30 is the most accurate non 1911 pistol I have EVER shot. AND it comes with TWO magazines!

I felt that way too, until I bought my first HK. The way that HK did it, it really seems to works well. It appears they reduced the weight of the frame, and increased the weight of the slide. The huge slide acts like an AK or FAL bolt. It's hard to stop it from going back into battery.

I have the p30 so it would be my choice, however I would recommend the sa/da trigger rather then the v3 or LEM. I'm still working out the very long pull of the trigger and is sort of hindering my accuracy. But 500+ rounds with no failures.

V3 is DA/SA. If you don't like your LEM, I'll trade you for my V3 in a heart beat.

The only SIG that I would even remotely consider over a P30 is an old W. German P228. And even then I'd still pick the P30 in a landslide.

BTW, if you look at the guns listed in my signature, you'll notice that I have two SIG's, and I can tell you without hesitation that neither of them come close to any of my HK's.

My vote is for the 229. I have one and I've gone 2000+ rounds with 0 hiccups. Also, I'd stay away from the Crimson Trace grips. Train without using them because if you get used to them, in a legit SD situation, you will revert back to your training. Once you learn point shooting, you'll rarely even use your sights.

If you can find a non/railed P229/40, that would be my first choice, having 2 myself with a combined total of just over 14k flawless rounds between the 2 of them.

However, if you want NIB and only can get a P229R/40, that will work too..

I doubt they'll be making a CT grip for the P30 any time soon, but you never know. Here is the new CT system that the SEALs are going to be incorporating into their new HK45C's (they aren't available to the public yet)...

I spent a great deal of time researching these two guns before buying. I went through quite a few guns before coming down to these two. I really thought I was going to get the Sig, but at the end of the day, the P30 won out. I was fortunate enough to be able to handle/fire both. They both handle well and are accurate enough. I found both to have good points and bad, but the balance and ergonomics of the P30 won the day. If you pick one these up, you won't be able to deny that they become an extension of your hand. For me, it does so more than any other pistol I have ever handled.

I have a very nice CPO Sig P229 .40 that has been a great gun so far. I have also owned a few H&Ks and my daily carry gun is a P2000sk 9mm.

That said, I prefer H&K overall. I trust them more and believe they are made to better quality standards. The P229 is a rather heavy and bulky gun. Still a great gun, but heavy.

You really can't go wrong with an H&K. If concealed carry is a possibility do yourself a favor and check out the P2000 .40. The P30 is nice for the range, home, or OWB concealed carry, but the P2000 .40 is IMHO their most versatile gun.

I like the HK better. Sigs are fine pistols and while I have a P228 I find it a bit blocky with a high bore axis.

I choose the SIG. They feel better to me, and I like them better. Both would be a great choice, can't really go wrong with either, but the SIG would be my choice

I thought I read about reliability issues w/ the newer sigs.. but it could've just been speculation or something.

I say shoot both with as many varieties of triggers as possible. I chose the hk45c because I wanted the cocked'n locked ability.. but later chose p2000sk w/ LEM b/c I really liked the LEM trigger after I tried it

The sig's DA is buttery smooth compared to the HK DA.. but I never use it. the SA trigger is a bit light for me to feel safe with.. but it's definitely nice'n light... I also like the decock better on sigs

both feel comfy in my hands.. so I'd say it's really down to the trigger

oh yes.. and the mag releases are different. I prefer the HK one on the newer models - allows me to change mags w/o altering grip.. big plus there

I voted P30 but, I guess I'm a bit partial. I would also stick with 9mm and the LEM trigger variant. In my opinion (probably not worth much), the P30 is THE best polymer combat pistol on the market today. Amazing ergos, completely ambi, something like 7 trigger variants, available in 9mm and .40, high German qaulity, the list goes on and on.

My HK P30 in .40S&W is the finest combat pistol I have ever fired.

The trigger even on the DA/SA is superb, the ergonomics are incredible, and recoil is lower than my 9mms.

It is in short one superb piece of engineering.
