For the record, I wouldn't wink tiddlys against the Army Marksmanship Unit's Sherri Gallagher. The outcome wouldn't be hard to predict. She's accustomed to competing. And winning.

She's been shooting since she was three, competing -and winning - at shooting competitions all her life and is one of those people who make you believe in bloodlines. ... (deleted due to copyright issues.)

Lame. She has never been deployed to a combat zone, nor is there any mention of her being in a leadership role as an NCO. There is plenty of references to her being "pushed" and "easily trained." She excels at "playing" soldier. She is an impressive marksman. Is she deserving of the title "Soldier of the Year?"

There are 1000s of SOLDIERS, both female and male, that are more deserving of the title "US Army Soldier of the Year." This is nothing more than media feel good BS.

I do want to add that her accomplishments are impressive... but until she has to endure a combat deployment, she cannot tangibly understand the internal fortitude, comradery, and sacrifice necessary to succeed as a "soldier" in today's Army.

How many times have you been deployed pro? Read your profile and I retract my question.
Having said that I remember reading somewhere the these Marksman unit soldiers are considered force multipliers because instead of sending their one rifle over seas the army keeps them here to train many rifles.

Given that philosophy, I think the Army is wise not to send her.
