My Schofield replica came to me through Gunbroker, as well as being the first time I'd ever bought anything from an internet auction. It's not so difficult once you go through it.

The seller will ship the gun to the local FFL holder in your area of your choosing. It's best to poke around town, fees may vary between shops.

The local FFL will handle the paperwork, background check, the fees and transfer the gun to you.

GB has some unbeatable deals, but if you have a good relationship with your local store, you *MIGHT* be able to get a deal that comes close when you factor in the shipping.

My Schofield locally was $739 in a shop I stopped in this week, I paid about $10 less after the shipping. It was worth it at the time as I was unable to find my revolver earlier this year locally.

I wouldn't say that 'gunbroker is expensive'. Gunbroker is just a site where sellers list their items. And you'll find that a lot of the guns you see are listed there by actual dealers, not always just random people. Buying a gun online from dealer XYZ is not different from buying a gun listed on auction by dealer XYZ. Think of it just a way for dealers to advertise in a central place where people can find it.

I think over half the guns I own came through gunbroker at some time or another.

Another way to look at it. Inform your local guy that he has the choice to sell you the gun for that price, or he'll simply make the transfer money off you. Depends on his cost for the gun, but whichever whichever makes him more money is what he'll do.

I have bought several things off of Gunbroker. The first thing to remember is, Gunbroker isn't the one selling these items, its just dealers and some regular guys selling stuff and using their site to draw potential buyers in. You still have the possibility of getting ripped off just like you can on ebay by an unscrupulous seller. Check their feedback, ask any questions beforehand you might have on returns or refunds if it isn't stated in the auction. Beware new sellers, they have little to risk by not delivering your goods after taking your money.

That said, I haven't had any problems with my purchases, but they were mostly parts and magazines, I have yet to buy a complete firearm off of there.

I've bought multiple handguns from GunBroker. I always look for a seller with a record of several hundred, or several thousand positive feedback comments. New sellers are suspicious to me until they get a good record established. Sign up for an account. Don't use a yahoo, hotmail, gmail, or other free web email address when you sign up, if possible, or else they will want $1 from you up front. Then go to that listing, and click BUY IT NOW! The seller will contact you for payment, pay him and tell him where to ship the 1911. Done.

Besides GB, you can also look at online forums want-ad sections, Guns America, Auction Arms and a for sale site - Guns International (no auctions)

I have seen decent deals on all of them and shady deals as well. YOU need to know what you are buying, all about it, and make sure you have done your due diligence in asking questions BEFORE you bid and win. There are some unscrupulous folks who use ghost, or phantom, bidders that drive the price up when someone bids on it - beware of those. I have purchased several guns from Auction Arms over the years, and it has gone well, other folks have had issues.

Caveat Emptor

Gunbroker has a buyer protection deal up to $500 I think it is. I have never had any problem buying or selling.

I have used Gunbroker a few times mainly for accessories and had good experiences. Some sellers are just people so your responses/shipping/service to them may vary, however a lot of dealers on gunbroker are gun shops, pawn shops etc.

Last time I bought something was some 10 round magazines, the seller was a pawn shop in AL, cool guys, they e-mailed me a phone number, I called up, talked to the dude at the counter, he charged my credit card on the phone and I had my package maybe 3-4 days later.

My suggestion would be go on gunbroker and look for the gun you want from a seller who is possibly a gun shop with high feedback.

I have had good luck selling and selling on gunbroker.

It is also a good tool for finding out what your item is worth, by saving auctions similar and comparing over "x" amount of time.

If you know how to navigate the sight, you can find some excellent deals and occasional obscure items.

That's exactly where I got my RIA a year and a half ago. I've made several other purchases from gunbroker and all have been smooth as silk.

I too am leary of web auctions...
You know, I like to save money as much as the next guy. But for a few more dollars to work with a local dealer, I would go there. Ask to match the price or come close. If the LGS doesn't want to sell it, you aren't out anything. Walk in with cash and say, "I would like to buy that gun. Here's what I'll give you for it." And just be quiet... Wait and see what he says... CASH speaks louder than credit (and words) a lot of time.

I try to buy local if I can. But some of these places are way to high. If you're talking $100 I don't know but more then that and I'd buy elsewhere.

What scares me about buying off the net is you don't see what you're buying.

I bought my A.H. Fox on GunBroker.com and didn't have a problem. Like any auction site you need to be wary on who you're dealing with. Check their comment section on how others felt buying from this individual was, of course the more positive feedback the better.

I have purchased several guns and parts on GB, and my experiences have been positive save one, and I was not out any money on that one, I just didn't recieve what I paid for and had to wait for a refund which I eventually got.

You will pay sales tax if you buy from a seller that resides in your state. I have found that GB is really no cheaper when transfer & shipping is taken into account. I buy some weird stuff, so I use them for stuff I will never find in a store.

I agree with w!plash. Talk to the FFL you would ship through, and let him see what he offers. Mine won't bother on some of the deals, he's happy to make the transfer fee. And I send him all the other guys I can. (One LGS is stupid high, and other has a very limited stock, I try to give business to the second when I can though.)

I have had no problems with Gunbroker.

All I do when I want a new gun is just look at something in a shop if I want to, then Google it on my smartphone. If I can buy local within $50 of what I would pay with shipping and the FFL fee, I would buy local. And I laughed out loud at the overpriced LGS when they offered me a $100 off a pair of 1911's, when they were both marked about $250 above reasonable retail. It literally turns my stomach to see the prices in that store. But I did let my wife buy an XD there because the price was only $30 more than the cheapest I could find on Google.

I've never haggled for anything in the states, but I loved doing it overseas. There was an art and a finesse to it. If you knew the actual value, you could get as close to the merchant's profit margin as he would let you go. And I watched other people pay ticket price and walk out, thinking they got a good deal.

And I know there are reviews of online stores in one of the lower sub-forums. Check those out.

I have bought several, make that a couple dozen firearms and LOTS of brass off Gunbroker. All good people and really good deals. If you need more info ask. Most sellers will provide more pictures and answer anything you want to know that has to do with their item. Yes do look at the feedback and shipping cost/requirements these could cause one to go to another seller due to potential problems. I always set myself a price I will pay on the auction before bidding and never go over that. I loose and another one will start with that item soon enough.

Gun Broker Expensive

My last Gunbroker purchase was a like new Interarms Walther PPK/S SS in .32 ACP for $410.

About $250 cheaper than any retail on it, if you could find a .32. They were kind of a rare item in the Interarms SS.

Prior to that, I bought a CZ83 in .380 that was hand selected by the vendor and in 99% condition for $230. They even sent me pics to see if the gun was acceptable before shipping.

Pick your item, know what your willing to pay, and check the sellers feedback.

FFl's in Kalif. collect sales tax on weapons transferred from out of state. They do so according to what you tell them the price is (HINT HINT). Don't know what the law is in Ohio (The OP's state). So you may want to inquire about that before making any bids online.

As far as GunBroker, I've bought three Rifles over the last couple years and have only had stellar experiences. Will start looking for a Handgun sometime this weekend. My Christmas present to myself that will probably be on GB.

Hello friends and neighbors // GB is fine, I've bought items from $35.00 to over $1000.00 with no problem.

A new firearm from a known company shouild be fine to purchase on GB ,IMHO.
Most of the sellers are eager to get or keep an A+ rating to improve their sales.

Know your values or you are taking a greater risk than an impulse buy at a gun show because you can not handle the item.

Judge your risk by the sellers number of transactions, rating, and feedback from purchasers.

I called every ffl in my area asking for $20.00 transfers until I found one.

I think I have bought about 40 guns on GB. A couple were slightly disappointing but none were awful and all were at my price.

Gunbroker is good i buy most my guns on there and sold a few to they should be no tax other then a transfer fee at your ffl most charge $20 or $30 dollars.

When I'm looking for a gun, I don't even bother looking locally, since the prices are off the deep end anymore, except for the place I transfer through, and another small gun shop, but neither of them has many used guns for sale. Gunbroker is my main source, but I have used Auction arms and GunsAmerica a couple of times. I've yet to have any real problems with any gun, or parts I've bought online.
