$96 FFL transfers in Central New Jersey

The lease I have paid is $10, that was great. His business was his home though. Now, it's usually $20. One place wanted to charge $25 plus 10% of whatever I was paying for the gun as a processing fee.

If I buy a gun online it costs me $96 to complete the transfer through the FFL gunstore near the route that I take back from work.

This is very high, but I have no other convenient choice that I am aware of.
Not as convienient but you can get a free trip to Florida out of it. Spirit Airlines has flights from Atlantic City to Orlando for $9 each way. Bass Pro Shop is about 5 miles from the airport. People from New Jersey ARE allowed by law to purchase fiirearms in Florida, and the airline will allow you to transport a firearm with you.

Have you tried pawnshops? They're in the business to make money not to tell people no.

I don't think we have pawn shops in NJ? I live in one of the more densely populated areas and have never seen one, closest thing to one I've ever seen are places that buy/sell gold. I wonder if there are any pawn shops?

Either way, to be a gun dealer in NJ you need an FFL and a license from the state of NJ which is how they keep new dealers away.

Can somebody explain to me why an FFL dealer in NJ can't choose to call the federal NICS number?
It would seem that if one state could be free to do it, so could any of the others.......

In California it was killing me. It simply was never worth having a gun shipped. it sucked.

here in Texas now and i pay $20... it has opened me up to many many more deals

$10-25 here.

If you choose to live somewhere like CA or NJ why would you complain about this? I would expect nothing less.

If it bothers you work to change it, move, or quit whining and live with it.

I moved out of CA when I turned 25. I was so fed up with that place, I was over regulated right out of their.

It's not the dealers choice.
Some states have opted out of the free service provided by the FBI and are designated as the "point of contact" for background checks.

For an explanation of why that state chose to charge their residents for a free service you would have to contact the loons that voted that in.

BTW......NJ is not the only state that is a POC, Florida, California, Illinois and a dozen or so others.

A lot of dealers take the bad attitude of, "You didn't buy it from me, so why should I help you?" They don't want to do it, so they jack the price up insanely high to either make you go somewhere else or erase any price savings you got online, thereby making their own inventory more appealing. Personally, I find that type of attitude disgusting, and it merely ensures I will NEVER buy anything from them.

Exactly.

Couldn't have said it better.

I pay $15 to my FFL.

I was quoted $35 by a LGS that I did do business with IN THE PAST.

I'll never step foot in that store again, especially since the owner wanted to charge me $150 more for the exact same SA handgun I had ordered from out of state, lied to me about the wholesale price (they don't have to tell me what they pay as a dealer wholesale, but if they ARE going to volunteer the info, at least don't lie to me and insult me), and then said the FFL fee was $35 because of "all the paperwork involved."

I told him right to his face he lost a customer for life.

"Wholesale price" varies based on the distributor and the volume of business an FFL does with that distributor. I've seen "buy it now" prices for NIB guns on GB that are less than I'd get charged by a distributor since I'm a low-volume dealer.
