I sure this has been brought up quite a bit, but I'll ask again. Has Glock fixed the problems on the Gen 4 17 and 19? I read that they had FTF and FTE problems do to the dual recoil spring. Has this been fixed or is this still a problem? If it's been fixed which is the better of the two, the model 17 or 19?

Why do you want a GEN4?
None of the local gun shops in my area can track one down. All their gun suppliers don't have anymore. I don't think Glock is going to carry the Gen 3 any longer. The only place that had the Gen 3 was the gander mountain near where I live and they said once they're gone their not going to get anymore in stock. So I kind of don't have a choice at this point but to get a Gen 4.

The "fix" is in.... lighter recoil spring. However, there are many if not most (myself included) who have had absolutely no problem with the original setup.

Rut, is yours a Gen4? I have heard of problems with some of these. I am currently working with a very disappointed G26 Gen4 user. His has actually made the trip to Smyrna. Still has an occasional fail-to-fire on the first round.
I think problems may be aggravated somewhat in that model. I have made some recommendations to him. Don't know if he will keep his pistol. It's his first handgun purchase.

Yes, mine is a Gen 4, and it will eat anything I throw at it. And yes, there have been some problems with some of them, but I think you tend to hear about those more than the ones that are trouble free. Glock has come out with a lighter recoil spring for the G19, and from what I gather, it has solved the problem. I love mine, especially with its thinner grip profile. I've not heard of problems with the G26, so I can't really comment on that.

Nope, Gen3 is alive and well as Gen4 are not approved for sale in California (but I am all smiles here for that misfortune ... oh darn
).I have a feeling Gen3 will be with us for quite a while bit longer which is fine with me as reloading for Gen3 Glocks are sure easier as they work fine with mid-high range load data. With Gen4, you'll likely need high+ range load data.

My Gen 4 has never had a problem, however the new recoil springs are in and do fix the problems for those that do experience the flaw. Apparently the base of the recoil spring has an "03" (like mine) on the original recoil spring, and an "04" on the replacement.

Several hundred rounds of heavy ammo are needed to "break in" the recoil spring system. After that it's good to go.

There is always a lot of overblown internet hysteria when a new gun has a problem. If 10 people had failures out of 50,000, the internet will make you think it happens to everyone. I have not yet acquired a gen 4, but I would not hesitate to if it was on my agenda. I like the double spring on my old G26, so I assume it is not a bad idea.

You can't swap them. The the hole in the front of the slide is bigger on the Gen 4. If you swapped in a Gen 3 spring rod, it would just fall out on the floor.
I just got the chance to look at the Gen 4 G19, and the recoil spring is an impressive piece of engineering. It looks like there's 3 springs in it. The weight of the spring is much stiffer than the Gen 3. I can't wait to shoot it. I suspect the felt recoil is going to be noticeably different.
The interchangeable back straps, OTOH, are a complete miss. I can't believe they have an interchangeable back strap system that starts out like a normal Glock-humped grip and just gives you the option to make the grip slightly bigger, yet retain the overall shape. I just can't imagine why they didn't make the base grip straighter and give you the option to add more hump. But whatever. It still feels like a Glock and it might have even less felt recoil. I'll find out when I shoot them back-to-back tomorrow!

M1key, let me know where your buddy got his gen 4 g26 as I was under the impression that they will not come out till early 2011.
I currently own a Gen 4 Glock 19 with the 04 recoils spring. I was a little perturbed when I took to the range the first day. With the factory mags I had a failure to feed on the third round through the gun, or fifth round if you count the two test fired at the factory.
Then had to more malfunctions (slide failing to lock back on the last round, and another failure to feed) while running through 150 115gr walmart rounds.
Took it home, cleaned it, lubed it, locked the slide back over night, and manually racked the slide 100 times while watching t.v. which probably scared the sh#t out of my neighbors. Since then, I have had zero issues with it and don't plan on running the 05 spring that glock says will be out late this month.
In terms of the frame, I really like the reduction of the hump on the back. The new rtf like texture is really nice on the range but have heard that it is irritating to the skin if carried without an undershirt. Also, the new gen is new enough that there arent as many accessories for it as the gen 3. Just a few things to think about.

Shot the Gen 9 G19 today. Good stuff.

Sweet shooter. My groups were a lot tighter than with my Gen 3. The trigger was a bit crispier and the grip suited me. I believe the felt recoil was less. But it was funny watching the empties dribble out of the gun when my friend shot it. They popped out of the ejection port almost straight up, about 3 inches in the air. She had about 6-8 jams in 4 mags. I had zero failures out of 3 mags. It had the 03 spring.
I hope she'll be getting a free recoil assembly via Smyrna.

I picked up a new Gen 4 Glock 19 today and just got done putting the first 100 rounds through it. I was leary to buy the gen 4 after reading so many internet horror stories about the problems the gen 4's were having but decided to get it anyway. I had absolutly zero problems with the first 100 rounds and empties were ejected as expected. I don't know if it recoiled any less than the 3rd gen because i didn't have one to compare. If you are in the market for a new glock do not let the internet horror stories keep you from getting a gen 4. I was leary but am 100% satisfied.
