I have a quick question about my Mossberg 500. I've actually never thought about it till now and can't seem to find an answer. When i depress the "Action Release control" on the left of the receiver, and pull the slide back, is another shell supposed to come out of the magazine?

I did download an owners manual, but that kind of language (just the technical talk around a subject) is slightly confusing. most of what I've learned about guns has come from here and experimentation, so I just figured I put the gun back together wrong. good to know i'm wrong. Thanks for the answer.

If you go to you tube you can find several good videos to show you how to assemble/dissassemble. Is it possible you installed the shell carrier upside down?

The shell stop and interrupter are tripped by the cam sections on the lifter and the bolt carrier. They get tripped every time the carrier comes back no matter how you got the carrier to come back, so yes, you get a new shell from the mag any time you fully open the action.

maybe wrong term, is it called a lifter? the thing that catches and raises a shell when you work the action. If it was upside down wouldn't it block the path of the shell coming out?

Nope I just looked at one, it wouldn't go back together that way.

Actually rand, I have 2 or three but I really don't use them much and I have to watch the video's for assembly everytime I get the urge to fully clean them. Also I really am not good with the proper terminology. But if thingy and dohicky will suffice we'll get er done :)

maybe wrong term

Lifter or elevator are accurate but I knew what you meant. I meant that the part you mentioned, the lifter or elevator, couldn't go back in except one way. No biggy at all.

Be safe.

Yeah i discovered youtube for takedown videos after i took apart my Mossberg the first few times. Would've made life easier if I thought to look for it before. But it's really difficult to install anything backwards in a Mossberg. I think the only thing you could technically install backwards is the pin the holds the trigger group. and that doesn't really count does it?
