If the goal is the tightest pattern, are the Federal Fitecontrol wads designed for cylinder or improved cylinder barrels?

Because of the way the Flitecontrol wads work, it is possible that improved cylinder could make the pattern spread quicker.

I will have empirical evidence soon.

Choke?

Every gun is different. Until you have experimented and patterned a particular load with a particular gun you will not know.

Briley is supposed to be developing chokes that compliment the Federal Flight Control Wad. Everything I have read says that it constricts .030, which generally relates to IM, and provides tight patterns. It's currently available for the Federal Black Cloud ammo, and in development for Buck.

I patterned Federal's #6 turkey load with the Flite-Control wad just after it came out. I used a Browning Gold and IC, modified, and full chokes. The IC choke produced the least dense pattern, followed by the mod. The full choke was tightest.

I've shot the 00 buck FC load thru a cylinder bored Model 12 with impressive results.

8" patterns @40 yards are common.

Hmm, wonders never cease

I have a cylinder-bore 18" barrel and an improved cylinder-bore 18" barrel, both on 870's.
(Both barrels have had their forcing cone lengthened and the bore polished to a mirror-like finish)

The IC shoots tighter patterns in everything that goes through it, including the Flite Controls.

I have found that the Hornady TAP OO buck has even tighter patterns than the Flite Control.
