Well I prefer my pistol ammo to begin with 4 and end in 5 but I would go with the 9mm cause I am not a fan of .40....my personal preference.

I would go with the Glock 17.

I remember some combat pistol guru saying all pistols should be 9mm, all 9mms should be glocks and all glocks should be 19s.

I can operate my G19 rapidly and with more than adequate accuracy.

I'm not a fan of the .45 GAP. But then it doesn't come in practically every platform the 9mm does in identical size and weight, with nearly the same firepower, and with defensive ammo at the same or lower cost (surplus LEO ammo!), but giving better performance, with ammo just as commonly available as 9mm and .45 ACP. If the .45 GAP ever manages that, I'll probably be a fan. :)

And what's up with people that call the .40 SW "short and weak" but favor 9mm? Wouldn't the 9mm be "short and skinny and even weaker?" :)

Most all contemporary designs for non-pocket 9mm pistols now and in the future will actually be based around the .40 cartridge. An obvious sign of this is the magazine designs of some modern 9mm pistols having indentations to hold the smaller 9mm rounds. You can say that older designs like the Glock 17 were initially designed for 9mm, but today's iteration is decidedly influenced by the .40 SW. The change to 3 pins, the redesigned locking block, and even the 11 coil mag springs were all in response to the .40 SW cartridge. And of course the new Gen 4 spring is balanced for the .40. The .40 is here to stay, and if you're not a fan now, you may be one in a few more years. :)

.40 is a fine cartridge no doubt, but when it comes to sheer practicality 9mm can't be beat.

I'm outside the box on this one. The most accurate, and, only Glock I've liked is the Model 35, and it was in .40. I suspect I would likewise enjoy the 34. Here in Kali, mags are 10 rounds, so I'd probably go with the .40, but, I haven't checked ammo prices, either.
Come to think of it, I do need some ball range ammo in 9mm...

That started in reference of the 40 vs the 10mm, in that comparison the 40 is shorter and weaker.

Yep. The FBI developed a reduced 10mm load so that most every female agent or panty-waist male FBI agent could handle the round, yet it would still meet their penetration requirements. Smith and Wesson put it in a 9mm length cartridge so 9mm platforms could be modified to shoot it. And now many of those polled shun this pathetic, weak cartridge, preferring the 9mm because it has less recoil. I understand, perfectly. :)

Glock 17 gets my vote....cheap to shoot....more fun to shoot....double taps...more rounds in the clip....supported chamber....and its the original glock design which means that it isn't an original design turned into another pistol in another caliber which means less reliability. I still say that the G 22 is a great pistol and plenty of people love them, but if my life depended on a pistol I would grab the 17 over the 22.

i dont care for 40 s&w it doesn't have the speed of the 9mm or the knockdown of the 45acp so my vote is for the 17/(19)
??? Have you researched the ballistics of equivlant loads? I mean there are definitely pluses and minuses of the 40 S&W but I don't think the above two are it.
