There are some genuine US M1 Garands out there in pretty good (correct or collector grade) condition that were never used in war. The positives are that these rifles benefit from the latest design improvements and may have correct parts for the date of manufacture. They also generally have pretty good bores, depending on use. The downsides are that they don't have the nostalgia of actually being a war rifle. In general are the post war Garands as collectible as the wartime Garands? Do most folks prize them as much?

The IHC guns are one of the more expensive ones to buy. Fewer of them made then most of the other mfg. There is a big collectors market in anything M1 related.

Lots to learn on this subject thats for sure. Some post war Garands in certain s/n's are more desirable than others because in certain cases fewer were made in a certain range. IHC can bring big money, all the way up to 4000.00 an probably more. Winchesters are also valuable depending on parts an date an condition an they are WWII....an if you can find the Garand that Lee Harvey Oswald used in basic you may have some good pocket money...I use to have the s/n somewhere...

CMP charges the same for the rifle with a S/N in the five millions as they do for the oldest one I bought from them (70,000 range Springfield).

Thats becuase CMP WWII reciver Garands are mixmasters.

A all correct unmolested WW11 rifle will bring a pretty good some.
Not even in the same league as a Post War rifle
IHC's are collectable just because there were smaller numbers of them made and not many available
