Ok, I got this gun for my birthday. It shoots well and I shoot it well, I dry-fired the mess out of it last night and I fiddle with it this afternoon and find a big ole rusty fingerprint on the slide. WTH, it's a stainless slide and I've had stainless guns before but never any rust. I got it in November, what's the deal guys?

In the Navy, stainless steel is called "corrosion resistant steel". I've seen it rust red/brown/green.

Buy yourself a cheap "silicone gun cloth" and wipe down your gun each time after you handle it.

has anyone else handled your gun? I help out at friend's gun shop pretty often and some people are just more "acidic" than others... It is actually pretty crazy how often he finds rust on his new guns, stainless, blued, parkerized or whatever...

I know a few guys who carry blackened stainless guns but, after exposure to their sweat, the guns rust anyhow... you just have to be sure to take an extra moment each time you put the gun away to give it a quick swipe with some sort an oil rag or silicon rag.

Some stainless steels will rust, They are corrosion RESISTANT. Handling your pistol without washing your hands after eating a bag of Ruffles will do it every time. I know.

Get some oil on it.

All the Best,
D. White

i know a Ruger SP101 and a Bond Arms Derringer Stainless Steel will rust you just have to keep them oiled.

I thought mine was rusting when i first got it, wiped it off with some CLP and haven't had an issue since, and its been in some fairly corrosive environments.
perhaps there is some metal dust that fell onto it after they coated it with oil for shipping

Polish your pistol with some flitz or maas cream metal polish & buff with soft rag until all the black paste is removed--use little dabs & work on a small area at a time. Then protect with dabs of mothers or meguire's liquid carnuba clear coat auto wax on a small piece of soft cloth. L;et it dry to a haze & then polish with another soft clean rag---you won't believe the shine !!!! I do this on blued firearms also.

Ps: Oooops--almost forgot---do the same treatment inside each of the cylinder chambers & inside the barrel on pistols, shotguns, revolvers, & rifles. This has worked well for me the past 30 years.

The Maas is the bomb. That stuff takes off scratches in metal. I even got deep ones out of my stainless appliances with it. I refinished a slide with just the polish and a few terry cloths. Then some wax like the man said, each time I fire it I just use a little oil on a rag.

I've been using Flitz for many years on both my plated and my blued guns as well. Works great, easy to use, and leaves behind a protective surface coating. Seems to last quite some time too, long after it's been applied. Never any signs of rust, tarnish, or dull spots on the finish.

I will second how amazing Flitz is. It is the only thing I have found powerful enough to remover the carbon rings on the front of my stainless revolver cylinders. It is some pretty amazing stuff. Sounds like I need some of this Maas stuff too though. :)

Lol @ the soap btw. But yes some folks are just more corrosive sweaters. I know this to be true.

what's the deal guys?
You didn't wipe it down after you got done messing with it the last time.

Some people have toxic sweat that will take the chrome off a trailer hitch ball.

I'm pretty much OCD about washing my hands and I don't have sweaty palms. I've had stainless guns and fiddled with them plenty without wiping them off. No issues. Whatever happend I'll take the suggestion and try out the flitz. Thanks everybody.
