If I apply for and recieve a tax stamp to build a suppressor, can I build it with help from a friend who owns a machine shop? His machines are all electronic controlled (cnc?)and I don't know how to operate any of them. I do not want either one of us getting in trouble, so I am researching before I apply.

you must be in attendance while machining the suppressor--you are the one with the paid tax stamp. :D

Exellent. I don't have machinery, and feel lucky to have access. Are ther any good resources for plans. I want one for a MKIII .22 Ruger, and also fit it to a rifle.

As above, yes, just make sure you are there and keep all of the parts while you are not working on it. Take all of them with you finished or not, once you start.

I didn't know that you could make your own, even with a Tax Stamp. I'll have to look into that, I have my own tools. Would be no problem to make one, there's plenty of info on the net and pictures of factory ones disassembled. Freeze plugs can be used also.

Sure can (no pun intended) you just file a form 1, not the usual form 4.

...a friend who owns a machine shop?
A slight hijack, if I may... one thing I've been wondering about for some time, but haven't sat down and researched it... I'm getting to the point where I'd like to cut a can for myself. Thing is, my "friend who owns a machine shop"... is in another state.

What about that?

You still can. I created a shared revocable living trust with my brother who is in NV, I am in WA. He submitted the ATF form 1 with his address in NV, sent me a copy when it was approved. As we are both trustees in the trust, we could both have possession of any silencer I made on the trust. I made the can and mailed it to him. Simple. Just make sure you trust the guy you are involved with.

Actually, it isn't a friend, its a brother in law. And he lives 300 miles away. However it's a good excuse to visit and get some fishing in as they live on the coast. Before I begin this adventure, I will find a good set of plans, and send to him to get a time estimation. I will probably get materials unless he has the stuff laying around. Then after I get my form 1 back, schedule a trip for some work and fishing. I have begun looking for plans, not much success yet. All this time cautioning him not to begin construction until I'm there. I'm also not sure if I will have him thread my host('s) or use a gunsmith.

Ranb... Now that I read your reply, I remember sending you a couple PMs about a year ago. We've already discussed this, I just forgot all about it until now. Dang, I really need to start moving forward with some of these projects. Anyway, thanks again.

And I can't even remember the last time I logged into SilencerTalk. It's probably been just as long.

K baffle is easy and works well.

458 socom suppressor that telescopes back over the barrel to add volume to the blast chamber to make up for the lack of, again aluminum, K baffles. I was trying to keep it as short as I could.
