28 versus .410

what's the context of the OP's question? For sporting clays and skeet? 28 gauge is very popular....for sporting clays 28 gauge is more popular, IMO, than .410. For skeet(anyone lookign to do serious comeptition), both are popular.

for upland hunting, I rarely see anyone hunting with 410...12 and 20 are about even followed by a mix of 16 and 28 shooters.

I just picked up a 28 gauge sporting gun...this gauge hits hard at sporting clays!!

I've used a 20 for rabbits and a 12 for birds for years. A couple years ago I tore up my right hand in the middle of bunny season and picked up a Comanche 410 single shot pistol to finish out the season. I did fairly well with it for the rest of the month of March (took five bunnies in two trips out). I finally decided to go smaller for rabbits and got a Stoeger Condor in 410 for Christmas that we celebrated as family today. I know it will be a bigger challenge than the 20, but what's life without a challenge. Opinions on the Stoeger shotguns are mixed, but at $360 NIB it fit the budget well. By the way, all the Condor series gauges are the same price at $360ish everywhere I checked. The problem is getting them as they only run them sporadically and finding the smaller gauges in stock (at least in the West Michigan area) can a problem. I'll let you know how it works out next weekend as we will be out in bunny country with our three beagles. My son-in-law loves his Berreta 28 o/u, but the price was just too high for a gun I plan to beat the bushes with in pursuit of the wascawy wabbit.

410 and 28ga

I agree.....a 28ga should be more popular.
I would give a young person a 28ga before a 410. Increases the odds that an inexperienced shooter will hit the target. I have seen several kids give up because they cannot hit anything with a 410. Personally I think a kid that is to small to shoot a 20ga is just to small. Its a safety issue to me. Little older means more capacity to shoot safely.
I would also use a 28ga before a 410 for game. Less chance of wounded game getting away. Personally I use a 20ga Wingmaster for game.
However......I use a 410 for skeet because its harder and more rewarding. I still remember how it felt when I first shot a perfect score with a 410.
