What is this rifle worth?

I am in possession of a Colt AR15 SP1. It is in mint condition. I was curious what something like this is worth? I could never part with it, but I would like to take an insurance policy out on my guns and this is the only one I consider to be "exotic" in that you will most likely not find another like it in good condition.

The serial number I believe is from 1964. I understand they made SP 00101-02500 in '64 and mine falls in that range. If you need any further details feel free to ask, I'll get some pics up shortly.

Edit: I should clarify, it is actually my wife's rifle. She inherited it when her father passed. I'm just hoping she'll let me shoot it a few times!

Anybody know anything about the value of these? I assumed because it was older it would hold some value, but if not that's fine to. Would love to know either way.

Thanks for the replies, we'll probably hold onto it and hope someday they stop making the blasted things! Haha, actually it makes me feel much better that it isn't worth that much. Now I can talk her into letting us use it, which I'm sure her father as a Korean War vet and U.S. Marshall would insist that we did.

I still can't get over the feeling of finding it in the back of a storage unit when we helped her mother move, what a shock to see that. And I did put 30 rounds down it, was remarkably accurate and a blast to shoot. Almost makes me want to build one like I used a few years ago in the Army.

Definately check at AR15.com. I suspect that is worth more than $1200; what a nice rifle you have!
