So a friend of mine wants to trade me his Kimber Raptor Pro II for my DPMS Sportical AR-15.

The DPMS is pictured here with the accessories that come with it

his Kimber comes with two mags a case and some .45 ammo

Tell me if you think this is a fair trade, We tenativley agreed on him receiving the AR and accessories and I receive the Kimber plus $100 cash.

Based on what Gus I am curious, should I ask for more cash on top of the deal or do you just think its a raw deal either way?

I wouldn't do it. It seems like a lot of people here have problems with their Kimbers (See thread about jamming guns) My .02s

I'd base the trade on whether or not you want the Kimber more than the AR.

I do think the trade is in your favor.

Do you have another AR or is this your only one? If you don't, I would recommend holding onto it, and onto those mags as they'll probably start to go up in price soon.

So the general consensus is that this isn't a very good trade? Is there anything that would make this a good trade?

You never have to talk your self into a good decission. If you already have reservations now, you will probably have bigger ones after the trade, no matter the monetary equidity.

But you stated that you already made an agreement. If I were to make agreement on trading something, I would not go back on my word.

it was a very loose agreement that I told him I would have to consider, now I know that I am not going to go through with the trade, I appreciate everyone's contribution and knowledge on the subject, Thank you again

Sorry, got tied up with work and then came home and hung out with my son. I would not do the trade because I am a rifle guy. I find a rifle to be more useful than a pistol in most situations out side of carrying for self defense. I like pistols, I really do. But I like rifles better. And if this is your only AR then no, it is a bad deal. But seeing how you already decided to not go through with it this is pretty moot.

Honestly the sportical is like an 800 dollar gun at most and the raptor is a 1400 gun.... I would do it in a heartbeat.... Do it and send me the raptor and I will send you another sportical.... You are talking about a very very bottom of the line AR-15 vs a top of the line Kimber!

Sounds like you've made the deal and are now having second thoughts.

Have you shot the Kimber and just luv it? If so, make the deal.

Is backing out on the deal going to damage your friendship? If so, go through with the deal and keep your friend (they're a lot harder to come by than another gun).

If this is a casual trade then tell your buddy that you're having second thoughts and keep yours and he can keep his. Help him build one and he won't need yours and he'll feel better about the whole thing.

Absolutely not.

Not to knock your friend, but in my experience when someone wants to offload a Kimber handgun that they paid a ton for, it probably has given them problems.

Blue Book value for the Kimber is $805, assuming 95%
condition.

Value of the Sportical, assuming the same condition,
is $550. That is just the rifle, so I guess you have
to figure what you have in accessories.

I would do that deal, assuming that

a) you want the pistol more than the rifle

b) you get the opportunity to shoot the pistol
with a variety of ammo.

Kimber was having some issues a few years ago.
I am a Kimber dealer, and we sent several guns back.
They have been better lately.

I would do the trade BUT that is just because I have more opportunities to shoot the pistol than I do to shoot a rifle. I guess value-wise you may be about even.

I have a couple of nice Colt 1911's and I wouldn't make the trade for your Sportical, but that's just me.
