How does a custom holster maker, specifically custom molded kydex, fit all models?? Certainly, these guys don't buy every gun that comes out so they can make a mold.

Thanks

There are a couple of companies that make dummy guns that holster makers use. These dummies are made from plastic or aluminum to the same dimensions as the real guns. The dummies aren't available for all guns so sometimes a real gun is still needed.

From a quick search, it looks like they are about $40 each. That's a big investment if you were to buy 50-100+.

Thanks for the replies.

You can sometimes find them for around $35 + shipping. The problem is that no one really stocks more than a few so they just have them drop shipped from the manufacturer. I have had it take as long as 3 months to get a dummy gun when this happens. You can also order direct from the manufacturers. Most of the time when ordering direct I have it in my hands in 7-10 days. The problem is you them pay full retail price of $55-$60 with shipping.
The expense adds up in a hurry which is why most holster makers start out by offering holsters for a limited number of guns and don't order additional dummy guns until they've received numerous requests for a particular gun.

If I don't have the gun, I mold it to the customers gun. I would rather do it that way anyway. There is no doubt about the fit.
