Tooth Chipper, Concept (Hybrid 1911A1/warthog) where can I get this made?

It requires considerable hand fabrication, but really could be done with a handful of 80% frames, a dremmel, and a decent welding setup... It would just take forever..

The idea is to modify a full sized 1911A1 configured frame so that it has a separate 'trigger guard' for each finger... and shorten the dust shield while stretching the original trigger guard (which would make it easy to use with gloves)

Then you would have to shorten the slide/barrel to warthog length without compromising the classic 1911A1 contour

with these altered dimensions it SHOULD keep the gun from printing while pocket carying, and well, in my opinion it just looks rather awesome.

Are there any gunsmiths who take on this kind of custom work? I would like to have a pair of them made (left and right) I would be in no hurry to get it completed.

Your thoughts/ideas?

(yes I know its a crummy chop for photoshop, but I didn't use photoshop I used MS paint.. I don't have photoshop)

Interesting idea, could be useful.
You could possibly buy a set of "brass knuckles", weld them on a steel gun frame, then Duracote the assembly.
Could be considered as brass knuckles which are illegal in many places.

I wouldn't think that would be very practical in your pocket.
 
gives a whole new meaning to pistol-whip,,,almost trench art,,but unfortunately leaves zero room for a spring, so I'm not too sure it would be much of a pistol,,but it sure looks menacing!
 
There was a company in the early 80's that made a knuckle duster front strap for a 1911. You'd certainly have a unique pistol. I don't think I'd chop up a US Gov. marked Colt for the project though.

You could start with a Colt New Agent or Auto Ordnance Pit Bull pistol. I suspect the main issue would be making sure you have enough spring and guide rod to make it work.

Holster issues can be easily addressed, and I would probably prefer to just tuck this In a jacket pocket anyway.

The guide rod can be handled the same way the warthog does it, there will need to be a bit of massaging to the layout, but that is all do-able
 
Drawing would be slow because you would have to insert your fingers in the "Guards" vs just wrapping your fingers around the gun. But certainly would be a conversation piece. Would also want something to stop the slide from going out of battery if you had to hit someone with it.
 
I'm also thinking about a variation on a saying by Clint Smith's "...either drive or shoot..."

If it is a fist fight, I'm punching.
If it is a gun fight, I'm shooting.

Can't imagine a scenario where I would be doing both at the same time. There is also the issue of being able punch without inadvertantly pulling the trigger.
 
You could design an unconventional holster which would allow for a fairly quick draw... I have a buddy who does custom leather who would drool at the oportunity....

This guy designed and made a quick draw holster for a tec22.... So I have a fair amount of confidence in his abilities.

You could just put the safety on if you wanted to punch someone

As to the practicality.... Well, if you have something better to punch hippies with I'm open to innovation. ;)
 
Slow to draw is not a holster issue, it is a getting your fingers into the holes issues.

In a fist fight, have never really needed much more than just fists. I also want to keep my ability to grapple which would be difficult if I'm holding the above pistol.

This pistol just complicates every kind of fight I can imagine.

Punching might cause a shot fired (or I have to take time to put a safety on)
Grabbing the slide and applying the supplied leverage with your fingers stuck in those holes will probably result in at least a couple of fractures.
In Texas, I know that knives that have this sort of handle are classified as brass knuckles and it would not be worth the fine, jail time and loss of my CHL to have something that probably would make it harder to defend myself.
 
I don't think it would be a huge job for one of the several gunsmiths known for clean welding. No need to cut up multiple pistols for their trigger guards, just bend and weld barstock and do some grinding and filing.
Getting one of those gunsmiths interested in the project and you paying for his time would be the hard parts.
Maybe somebody accustomed to building up gimmick guns for a movie prop department would be a resource.
 
I understand that this may not be everyone's cup of tea, and that it might not be legal everywhere.

however, I have plenty of practical guns... so why not have some unusual toys just for fun?

Jim, which smiths would you recommend approaching? I've always been into unmodified 1911's so I've never even looked into who was known for modifying them.

I don't mind paying for quality work, but I would like someone who can make the modifications look like they are factory.

You should just do that to a Glock. A few extra trigger guards and some super glue and viola'.
