So I'm looking at either a glock 23 or an hk p30. A friend of mine has both of them and I've put quite a few rounds down both of them. I do not want a 9 mm.

Both are good guns. I would also look at the M&P. Over the years I have owned a Glock 21c and H&K USP (yes different guns, but the same brand). Yesterday I bought a S&W M&P (American Made). I really like all 3. I believe you will get a little bit better CS from S&W if you have a problem.

Here is my advice, pick the one which fits your hand best and when you bring the gun up sights in the quickest. If you have shot regularly, for a long time you may see some slight differences in accuracy but maybe not. Good Luck.

Matte; don't know if you are aware of it, but you can purchase a Glock 22 and then purchase a .357 SIG barrel and just drop it in, you have two guns ( the extra barrel is about $100.-). I've discussed this with the guys on the glock forum and plan on purchasing a Glock 31 and then the barrel's in 40SW and 9MM. Love the thought of three calibers, one frame.

While I am a Glock guy, I am not a 40 cal guy, I have heard that the HK USP is a very good gun in 40 cal and the Glock 40 cals have a great deal of recoil. In 9mm I know which I would choose in 40

I would assume the HK P30 would be a similar winner in 40cal, thus of the two choices I would give it a long look.

Many reasons to choose Glock, overall cost, magazine cost, aftermarket stuff, used by lots and lots of cops, rugged and durable with no frills... that said If I were to get a 40 cal gun Glock would not be my first choice to look at but then again neither would the HK.

They don't compete in price or features. HK is a cut above any Glock, even though there will be many in the Glock fan club who'd like to think differently.

How many variants does Glock have?

personally, i like the smaller size and feel of a glock, to me the grip on the hk is just way too long. i have no allegiance to either really, i carry a g23, but i inherited it. if i had bought my handgun, i probably woulda shopped for something american made over the glock or hk, and i certainly wouldnt have paid the extra ($200 isnt it?) for the hk.

on a side note, and i by no means want to hijack, but it may help the OP in his final decision, i read somewhere on the forum about HK not wanting caring about their civilian market at all? ie their customer service has no time for civilian customers when they could be dealing exclusively with the feds? any truth to this?

HK makes a very good product, though I am not convinced it is worth the extra bucks over a Glock. I guess it is a matter of taste.

Ive shot them both a lot, and i am more accurate with the glock than the HK. Plus I like the availibility of aftermarket parts for the glock whereas the HK's parts such as mags are so darn expensive

Why are you asking the question then? There is a reason parts are so available for the schlock and not the HK, you won't need parts for the HK.

I shot the HK before buying the G22. The fit and feel were better. Try shooting them both again in training scenario shooting, (multi level, hostage takers, movers), run a few sprints do some shooting and see which gun hits better for you. Test the guns for real shooting and your shooting style. Buy the one that gives you the most hits.

I love how biased comments come from people who's screen name touts their bias. It makes for much funny.

It couldn't be that Glocks are simply more popular and therefore more retail outlets carry parts for them. Nein! Nein! Nein! Das can't be it! Das HK es perfect uber gun, leaving no vant for extra modification or vant for spare parts in case of breakage! :D

I'm sure HKs are good guns, I'm just not sure they are worth the extra $ you have to pay for them over their competitors. Your mileage may vary.

I've shot both, I don't think so. I saw nothing that made the HK superior to the glock.

Sure you will. Everything breaks. Truth be told, the average shooter won't ever need parts for the HK or the Glock, except for maybe recoil or mag springs.

And glock parts are readily available because glock sells them to anyone. Anyone can put them in. You don't need an armorer's course or a lifelong gunsmithing resume to tear a glock down to bare parts.
