reloading and the .223

so my friend has a problem when he's trying to reload some .223 brass. i said ill post it up and see what the experts say. this is his problem.

I'm loading .223 cartridges with minimum recommended loads from the newest speer manual with ar2206h powder, and before i can achieve a length below maximim cart OAL the case collapses at the shoulder.

that's what he type out and said for me to ask. thanks in advance.
 
Your die is screwed in too far and your crimping(actually crushing) the shoulder. Read the instructions that came with your die, and also the ABC"s of reloading.
 
Yep ... he needs to back off the crimping die a couple turns ... there is no reason to crimp even for a AR ...unless the neck tension is not right ... if it is correct ... no need to crimp. Just like your friend ... it causes more problems than it solves. I only crimp pistol an revolver loads. Worked for 40+ years now!
