ARs chambered in 450 Bushmaster and 50 Beowulf have been out for a while, has anybody made an AR 10 platform chambered for big bore? If not why? If the 450 "Thumper" preforms like a 47-70, how about a 450 "Wopper"? A 50 cal with a 2.018 case?:what:

I would guess because AR-10s aren't necessarily compatable between brands, unlike the AR-15s. Therefore there's a MUCH bigger market selling AR-15 compatable uppers as apposed to a small and brand specific AR-10 market.

Simple build...

Dies to neck up the .308 to .416
Set of loading dies
400 gr Hornady bullets

Would use the same magazines and BCG, should be a simple rebarrel.

I plugged some estimated figures into a Powley calculator I found and came up with some numbers for that 400gr .416 out of a 20 inch barrel.
Vel. 1703
Energy 2573
Pressure 43100

It would be close to a 45-70, or the 450 Bushmaster, just a smaller bullet maybe it would be flatter shooting. I don't think it would be worth necking up a .308, perhaps starting out with a wider case would be more productive.

Nice thing about necking up the 308 is the ease of the caliber change. Having to make new magazines and a new bolt would make this an expensive project.

Maybe because not many guys would buy them. Sounds to me like putting a flathead motor in a Corvette body. My guess, antique style cartridges belong in a vintage weapon like a lever action. Or better yet a Thompson. They shot .45's.

I wonder what the recoil is like, it is a lot more powerful than the 50 Beowulf. A 300gr at 2600fps apposed to 1870fps out of the Beowulf. I want to take it gopher hunting, I wonder if Hornady will make a 50 cal. V Max.
