hey there
just picked up some hornady 240 grain hp/xtp bullets

do any of you have load data for these, i have alot of unique so hopefully you guys will have some using that

for future reference could i use load data for any240 grain jacketed hollow point, starting with the minimum and working up

thanks

My best loads using that bullet are with W-296 or 2400.

Either of them work as well as the other, but the majority use the 296. I load 23.5grs and it is a great load out to 75 - 100yds from my Redhawk.

i do have reloading manuals but am unsure unless the manual indicates the brand bullet i am using

i am not sure if i can take load data for any 240 grain jacketed or jacketed hollow point,

thanks

Yes. You can safely use data for a similar JHP of the same weight. Start low and work up, as usual.

If you insist on data for that bullet, it is out there. You will just have to buy a Hornady manual (or find someone who will post data) or find a powder company that used that particular bullet.

I get an average of 1375 fps with 20 grains of AA#9 or 1230 fps with 23 grains of IMR 4227.

Both of these were out of a Super Redhawk with 7.5 inch barrel. The only two loads I have tried with this bullet, so far.

hornady manual for 240gn. xtp shows 10.7gn min and 12.1gn max for unique powder. suggested col is 1.600".

Unique is good for light and medium loads. 12 gr of unique is about the max for 44, but still considered a medium load. For full tilt 44 mag loads you need a slower burning powder. I would suggest 22.0 gr of 2400.

thanks again all of you

do they use magnum primers or standard with that load

"...load data for any 240 grain jacketed hollow point..." You can use data for any 240 grain jacketed bullet. Load for the bullet weight. Who made it or its construction doesn't matter. Don't use jacketed data for a cast bullet though.

sorry about not getting back to you. the manual cheats a little and uses wlp (winchester large pistol) primers. can be used for both magnum and non-magnum loads. other manuals (speer) show a non-magnum primer for 240gn loads a cci300 in this case.

My pet hunting load for my ruger redhawk 5 1/2 barrel is 20 gr. of 2400, win large pistol standard primer and win brass and 240 gr xtp's. Have not cronographed it but it will shoot through a whitetail deer at 69 yards, (lazered the distance) I'm picky with my shots and am 6 for 6 so far.
