Good Conceal Carry Question

I nearly always carry in my front pants pocket.

A smaller pistol in a pocket is a good option. An ankle rig might be another option to look into. The biggest issue in your situation would be retention, followed by not having the gun in a position that it is pinned between you and what you are working on. Do you wear coveralls? That's a tough situation if you constantly have to be horizontal as far as body position. Even an ankle holster may "print"'or even peek out in that position. I wonder if a fanny pack disguised as a tool carrier might work.

i am a auto tech as well. i tried to carry something on my hip and all it does is hurt since im always moving about under a dash, etc as you know yourself.

right after the keltec PF9 came out i got one and loved it. i changed jobs so i sold it to my brother. when i was able to be back turning wrenches i had a keltec P3AT fall into my lap (friend in need of money) so now thats in my front pocket all day with my carharts. never falls out, never moves, and i just don't notice that its there.

i know most people on THR are not a fan of pocket pistols or the .380 round but i feel its better then a sharp stick. and im really not a fan of carrying a full size gun like i do anyother day but have to take it off and leave it in my box while at work.

The AM model works very well for me and is secure. IWB/OWB in general isn't all that comfortable for me (esp. driving).

Pocket carry J frame type should work just fine.

I worked as a mechanic for about 5 years. Any belt carry method will have you in pain and your pistol wrecked in no time. No matter how many lifts a shop has, it always seems like you are rolling on the floor!

Pocket carry IMHO is the best choice.

I know I will get flamed for this but have you considered small of the back carry?

Clip the knife in your back pocket. I never used clip knives because they scratched fenders and snagged seats. People are crazy picky about their cars.

A lcp, tcp, p3-at can go in tour back pocket too.

It is a concealment system that puts the gun just about where your privates are. For any gun, I would think up to a full-size 45 Auto, it should serve your needs well.

Of course, the smaller the gun, the easier to hide and not have accidentally fall out or some such thing.

knowing how it is being a mechanic honestly ankle or pocket is best. ive tried almost everything else and it all results in pain.

keltec p3at, pf9 or p11, all very slim and light. i carry the .380 but the pf9 in the single stack while the p11 is a double stack 9mm's if you want that.

Around Christmas I got my Galco Ankle Holster. I love it. I have worn it almost every day since. There was virtually no break in, and it is comfortable while wearing everything from flip flops and jeans, to 8" Tac boots and BDU's. I know you mentioned that it is something that you have thought about, and I was skeptical at first too, but I'm glad I did it.

As a maintenance engineer in a large commercial building that's the one place I simply do not carry due to the discomfort.
One minute your on an eight foot ladder changing a light ballast and the other your laying on the floor on your side or back trying to fix a plumbing leak.
So I can relate with the OP's real life dilemma.

Front pant pocket, or ankle holster. The only downside is that you may want to consider using a lightweight snub nose revolver like the Taurus model85"UL" it is not bulky or heavy like most semi-autos.

I carry in a cargo pocket, usually. Had a 3" 1911 that worked just fine for that.

Pocket carry would probably conceal best. There are lots of good pocket autos out their now, as well as the traditional choice of a 5-shot .38 revolver.

A friend of mine has that last one, never knew he carried. The first time he brought it out I thought he was getting something from his wallet. Of all the options available it's probably the most "work friendly". Should it slide out of your pocket and onto the floor it won't give rise to panic or worse, firing. Don't forget to consider any work rules in regards to carry, some employers really don't understand.

Shoulder holster works well as long as the holster has supporting straps and/or tiedowns to make sure the gun doesn't flop around. Works well, can draw quickly from coveralls, but doesn't hurt when you're moving around or lying on your back.
