hey folks, just registered here to get some information from you knowledgable folks. i was actually thinking of the pt 1911 as my first pistol. before i did some research on forums and what not a few months ago, i always liked the designed of the squared 1911. before i even know what the name of the gun was but now i love it. i felt one for the first time today at the range, same one to be exact and it was great. i was thinking first, a 9mm so mostly gun range action (from illinois, so no CCW). With 9mm it'd be cheap to shoot it.

anyway, so if you don't mind me asking Codger, what you paid for it?

My local gun shop has it for 650 plus tax. i was looking at a dealer online for 600 shipped to a FFL.

Would this be a good weapon to start of with?

I've shot the CZ 75b and it was on my list to buy, but now with a deal with the taurus i may go that route.

sorry, i dont mean to hijack your thread friend.

Nice, nothing shoots like a 1911 9mm I have an old Colt Series 70, and an STI Trojan 9mm. The STI is the best shooting pistol I own, has the recoil of a .22. and is laser accurate. You are going to get spoiled, all your other 9mm will become safe queens or just get shot to clear the cobwebs out of them. Congrats!
RAVOT: $650 seems high, in that price range you could get an STI Spartan. Or if price matters the Rock Island 9mm can be had for $400 or less.

Looks like you already got rid of the plastic Taurus grips. Good choice. Hope you shoot the hell out of it!

Carter, thanks for the tips. I couldn't find the STI spartan at buds. but i did find the RIA. i think it's the one you mentioned?

if they are wrong, can you provide some links? I was definitely looking at a full barrel btw.

One of the reasons i was liking the PT1911 was due to the mods it has already stock.

is 600 too much? Or can i get a better gun like you mentioned?

Ravot, don't mind you asking at all. I bought it through Guns America and probably paid too much.....$598. I had forgotten about Buds since I had checked them numerous times for other items back during the shortage and they were always out of stock, on backorder, etc. I understand they have them at a better price now and are in stock.

Thanks everyone for your positive comments. I went to an indoor range today and ran 200 rounds through it. I had zero misfires, 1 FTF and 4 FTE's. Most of them happened during the first 100 rounds so I think everything will level out in another 100 rounds or so. My biggest complaint is that the slide fails to lock open on last round. Talked with the owner of the range and he said it was either limp wristing, lack of proper lube or the ammo wasn't powerful enough (Using Wally World Federal ammo). I honestly think that it's a limp wrist problem. Can't wait to get back on the range and see if I can't stiffen up my ole 72 year old wrists!! Arthritis controls that to a degree believe it or not!!!! By the way, I plan to live to be 110, go to the range and waste 250 rounds of powder and lead, then just fade away.....

Wow, didn't mean to make such a long post but Ravot, I have a CZ75B and absolutely love it also. They are one sweet hunk of pretty steel.......but I love the 1911 design.....If I had to get rid of one of them, it would be a hard decision to makebut I'd probably stay with the '11.

Codger. Thanks for the info. 598 is too much? Hmm bummer. What's a fair price for that guy? I was thinking of purchasing it but it's also 600 shipped. I wonder what I could get with a budget of 600 700 dollars.

Very nice find! Great looking piece! :)

I've thought about getting one, but have Taurus almost everything else.

Olecdoger,

Old guys think alike!

I bought one just like that also also. will pick it up tomorrow.

my Range report to follow also.

I agree, that is a nice looking pistol. Probably due to my inherent 1911 bias, but it does look sharp.

My RIA came with grips very similar to those and were the only thing I changed from stock. If you later plan to look into grips, they're available for cheap if you shop around.

A couple years ago, I purchase walnut grips for my RIA for around $10 before shipping (no-name, Cheaperthandirt.com) and coco bolo grips for around $14 for my Kimber (Herrett, CDNN.com), both double-diamond pattern, that I've been quite happy with.

Congratulations on your 9mm 1911!

Thanks fellas for all the compliments. The only thing that I did was to change out the black cheapo plastic grips that came with the gun. They were some that I had in the safe for so long I don't even remember where they came from! I don't plan to change anything else.....leaving it stock. After all I paid Taurus to put all the frills on!!! I sure like the matte stainless over the shiny stainless......I think it gives the gun some class!

They seem to have done an excellent job on fit and finish.......everything seems to have very close tolerances.

Bikerdoc, you're getting behind. I went back to the range today and had a perfect performance out of my 9mm. 101 rounds without a single problem. The first 200 rounds the other day gave me some FTF's and FTE's along with slide not locking back on last round. However today it ran like a Singer Sewing machine. The only thing I did different was to lube the rails with a 40:60 mixture of ATF/STP. Also made sure that I didn't Iimp wrist............so something must have worked......I absolutely love the 9mm. Gotta break it down tomorrow and give a good field strip cleaning. Gonna be extra careful not to put a beautiful "idiod mark" on it. Looking forward to your range report.
