Love the XDm

I actually owned three XDm's 9mm, because I liked the first one so much! I gave one to my son and his wife for Home Defense. I also Own a SW-MP Full size 9mm. Another Excellent shooter. NO Failures of any Kind with the XDm or SW-MP. Both are Great guns. You get more Mag capacity with the XDm-19 rds as opposed to the 17rds mag in a SW-MP. The MP is Overall Smaller-When you are Handling the XDm it feels more like What I would define as a Combat 9mm.

The Best to All!

priler sez about hammer fired systems delivering more firing pin energy than striker fired designs:

this is a myth which is 100% inaccurate and shows a total lack of knowledge and understanding in the specific details of how striker and hammer designs work.

It's not a myth, it's physics. While a striker can deliver sufficient FPE from its spring drive, the added mass of a hammer falling on a firing pin can deliver even more.

....and then that very same usually smaller and/or lighter firing pin looses alot of that energy as it's "flying" towards the primer. the hammer doesn't transfer all it's energy directly to the primer.

And then either one almost always (all else being equal) goes bang. Each system has its strengths and weaknesses that the OP can now weigh. Let's please not hijack the thread with senseless bickering and do attempt courtesy in answering or starting another thread.

I only have Glocks in the poly...So I have to say nothing:D Most or many don't have the guns they badmouth or endorse I have noticed:what:

Funny about many of the threads on a cartridge or a firearm, what is it about that, like owning a veh...I would think...Ford, Dodge or Chev:confused: I have had all of them at one time, now I have two Dodge Trucks one is Diesel the other is hemi head:D

You don't like the best one of the bunch (Glock) imho:evil:

I know you tried to rule it out...but G19 all that eay... I hate the 17/23 feel, but not he 19's

glock 19 or FNX-9,

i have both and the FNX is my favorite, accurate out of the box, over 3500 rounds through it and not a single malfunction of any kind.

Of the three you listed, I would go with the Beretta Storm. I almost bought an M&P, but couldnt get past the trigger. There was no indicator, feel or sound, when the trigger was reset. You owe it to yourself to look at the XDm, if you havent done so by now.

My favorite has also been my XDm. I wish it didn't come with the "free" extras that I've never used, but other than that I love it and haven't had any trouble with it. That being said, I've shot and own several different polymer pistols and the only one I've ever had a problem with is my Walther P22.

Sig Pro 2022. Picked one up for 500 at Academy w/ factory night sights. Bought 200 rounds along with it (gotta love Louisisana) and took it directly across the street to the range. Spit out all 200 rounds, zero issues, and to date has been the most accurate pistol I own straight out of the box. I have read that alot of folks don't think too highly of them, I can't say enough good things about that particular Sig.

I've owned a number of polymer 9mm's. I would have to say the best, literally out of the box, was my XDm 9 4.5. Below is my target for the first seven rounds out of the gun - taken from the box (no prep), loaded and fired at 25 feet.

What don't you like about the 23, the recoil?

I meant to put 17/22 (the 9mm and .40 full size frames that are identical) However, I would prefer the 22 over the 23, as I personally am more accurate with it on follow up shots.

I would try the Glock 19 before you decide. It shoots different than the 17 in my experince. If I could only own one handgun it would be a 19. It is super accurate and no reliability break in period.

Of the three you listed, I would go with the Beretta Storm. I almost bought an M&P, but couldnt get past the trigger. There was no indicator, feel or sound, when the trigger was reset. You owe it to yourself to look at the XDm, if you havent done so by now.
You can **feel** the trigger reset on the M&P. I only shoot to trigger reset and love it on the M&P.

I LOVE my M&P. Never shot a gun better than I do this one. Carried a Walther P99 between the M&P and my 1911. Hated the trigger on the P99, but loved the mag release on it. More companies should put the mag release on the trigger guard.

Interesting how many people claim the Walther P99 to be best.

I shot one once. Hated it. The recoil in 9mm felt similar to .40S&W out of many of the other polymer pistols I've shot.
I don't know how the pistol managed to magnify the recoil so much. then again, could just be the way it fit my hand.
On the other hand, my M&P9 seems to have much lower recoil than other pistols of similar caliber for me.

Gleaner, now that you've gathered opinions and realize every single brand and model is THE best pistol out of the box, remember NO pistol is EVER 100% guaranteed to remain that way. Not testing function through a few hundred rounds is placing far too much confidence in an unproven pistol. You owe it to yourself to spend the few extra hours at the range rather than fretting over which model will never ever fail. No pistol meets that criteria.

Find one you like, shoot it as often as practical.

What is in your opinion the best polymer 9mm out of the box? I know it can take a few hundred rounds to tell if your gun is working like it should but I don't get to go to the range a whole lot so it may take me sometime to put a few hundred through it. In the mean time whatever gun I get I want to know that I can depend on it even with just a limited amount of ammo through it. The guns I'm looking into are the M&P 9mm, Beretta Px4 Storm 9mm, and the Ruger SR9. I thought about the Glock 19 but I just shot a Gen 4 G17 and I didn't like it. It didn't fit me well. So Glock is out. Any thoughts on the three mentioned?
Yeah, you're turning your nose up at the the best 9mm pistol made, thats my opinion....And a Ruger? Get serious...
