Just curious if anyone does this. I see shooters at the club with all these crazy brands of shells. None that I'm too familiar with anyway, and I never have the courage to ask them what they shoot for fear they may bust ballz:neener: and say that my Rem Target loads in #8 are for n00bs.

Anyhow, I thought I saw a Kent box one day and thought isn't that bismuth/steel waterfowl shot?

IMO it would seem lead is better for clays since it is more dense than steel or a hybrid metal?

Thoughts??

Kent makes lead loads as well for targets, as does Gamebore, Kemen, and others. many folks where I shoot like the Kemen and Fiocchi loads because they can buy them cheaper than the wally world crap from RemFedChester

Some of my shooting mates regularly use steel for clays, with good effect too. Thing is, cartridge prices are really high here at the moment, a decent fibre wad cartridge can be £170 per thousand.

Consequently we dont use em much :) Where I can I try to use plastic wad #7.5 size at £139.00 per thousand, but steel are cheaper still at about £115.00.

I've never used steel myself, but the way things are going, I bet I do ....

oneounceload, where do you get kent, etc. cheap??

Cabelas has Remington target loads for $59.99/case

CYBuzz, I don't think any of them reload because they toss their hulls all the time. I am one of the few that keeps mine. I don't currently reload but in case I decide too then I will have many to work with.

I shot a few rounds with some Steel #7 that I had laying around.

I only had one box of lead stuff and wanted to shoot 3 rounds. I thought the steel performed pretty well, the #7 shot has the same number of pellets as 7.5 or 8. and it was 1300fps. Seemed to shoot and feel about the same as the lead stuff. being that it is $5 a box helps too.

I mentioned Kemen and Fiocchi - we have distributors locally that we can get ammo in bulk cheaper than wally world.

Those Remington's aren't the STS loads - plus you will either have tax or shipping added. Our Kemen's are running $55 OTD

Kent makes a lot of different shotshells, among them #7 steel shot for targets. Some places require steel/nontoxic shot for targets.
