I recently had one of my pistols stolen from my house. Can't begin to tell you how pi$$sed I was/am over this. It was taken by some guys who were doing some work to the house when I was away. I am a long distance truck driver so I'm away frequently.

It was a Springfield 1911 Loaded, that was one awesome hand gun.

I hold out no hope of getting it back.

Have you had a firearm stolen before?

No, but when I was racing MX I had a brand new bike stolen. That hurt, 5 grand just evaporated. I sympathize.

Did you turn your serial number in to the police? Its a long shot, but occasionally stolen guns will turn up. I worked in a pawn shop and we had a couple of pawned guns turn out to be stolen. Long process in returning them to the owners, who acted as if it was our fault, but they did get them back eventually.

Oh yeah I reported it, the cops were at the house within a half hour. I had the original bill of sale along with some photos of the pistol I had when I was building custom grips. The officer told me that detectives would be interviewing those who were in my house.

I called the contractor and told him that the cops would be coming over to talk with him...and that if by some miracle my pistol with holster would show up, i would tell the cops i found it.

I think it was the supervisor for the work crew....just my gut feeling.

In Maryland, even if they find the perp and get said pistol back, I've not heard of anyone getting a weapon back.

Jmurman - I'm in MD too, and I can testify that you can indeed get a recovered gun back from the police. My good friend had a broomhandle mauser stolen from his room by the crackhead son of the house's landlord. Through a little "creative negotiation" with the landlord and her son, he was able to recover it himself, though the police did impound it pending an investigation. He had to jump through some hoops to get it back from them, but it was returned to him.

Years ago I had a S&W 645 stolen. It was used in a murder and I never got the gun back.

Still miss that gun.

Security

I'm curious. For those victims:

Were the stolen guns in a safe or otherwise secured?

If so, how was the theft done?

If you are a member of the NRA

http://www.nra.org/benefits.aspx

$2,500 of ArmsCare coverage with your NRA membership. This plan covers insured firearms, air guns, bows and arrows against theft, accidental loss, and damage.

For purposes of insurance, NRA members must be current active members of the NRA whose name appears on the NRA membership list.

In my case they BnE'd my home by shooting out the sliding glass door with a BB gun and cleaned me out. The gun was in a dresser door (not secured).

It turned out to be my step-mothers teenage nephew that did it. He was the one who ended up murdered and my gun was at the crime scene.
