What do you fill your rest bags with? Years ago I bought some leather bags and filled them with 7 1/2 shot. Heavy as heck, caused the seams to fail, shoe goo to the rescue.

Recently I bought a Shooters Ridge rest and needed a back bag. The back bag by Caldwell was as much as a front and rear set made by Caldwell from midway.

The suggestion from caldwell is that I use corncob which I have in abundance but I'm thinking that is going to be a bit light. I'll probably fill that front bag and leave it in the trunk until it wears out just to have something anytime.

I'm thinking of a couple pounds of shot or so and the rest corn cob. Used corncob from my case vibrator.

I'm interested in how you set up your bag, especially if it it was a caldwell bag delivered unfilled.

Thanks,

Wes

We used socks filled with rice in our SDM course in the army. The rice needs to be inside a plastic bag inside of the sock if it can get wet. Now this was for putting under the stock and squeezing to adjust elevation. But I could see it used in a sandbag too. The rice is heavier than corn cob media, but much lighter than shot or sand.

bag's

mine is filled with lead shot (man it's heavy)just helped the ole man fill up a tall bag so he dont have to use block spacer's ,we used sand kinda like a three bear's special feels tons better !:D

I have sand in some, kitty litter in others.
A friend paid Sinclair extra for "heavy sand" to put in his.

I have heard of them being filled with plastic pellets if you can find some.
I'd be leery of biodegradeable fill like rice.

I put sand in some leather bags I started using back in the 70s. It was good enough then and I still use the bags today.

I recently bought a 50# bag of play sand at the local Home Depot ($7 something for it). It filled 6 empty 25# shot bags with about 1/3 bag left over.

I very much prefer sand in my shooting bags.

California beach sand! Free, plentiful, and comes in variety of grain size. Of course, the morons in the state legislature will probably pass a law soon outlawing its use in anything firearms-related. :D

Shelled corn, cheaper than rice. Make my bags out of the legs form old blue jeans. Either sew them shut or try them with rebar ties.

I use kitty litter in my Caldwells. The weight of lead shot or sand seems to shorten the life of the bags from what I have read. I have had it in my Caldwells for 2 years now and they work great.
