I guess you have to know how the CCW laws work. In Ohio, the revision to the law will read that you can carry in a restaurant that serves alcohol, but while CCW, you will not be allowed to drink. Most likely, that will be a felony, and your CCW and future gun rights will be taken away. Firearms responsibility will be on the person licensed, but fireams and alcohol will not be allowed to be mixed. If you want to drink, you'll have to leave the gun secured off your person and off the premises.

Ohio's CCW law pretty much prohibits you from having any alcohol if you are carrying, a provision I have no trouble with. But I believe that Buckeyes are quite capable of carrying a legally possessed handgun, with a CCW, into Outback and resist the urge to get drunk. There's what, 40 some states that allow it so far, with no problems?

With Republican majorities in both sides of the legislature, and a Republican governor who says he's pro gun (though he voted for the Clinton era AWB while in Congress) maybe we'll see this passed this year.

before the last sesson ended i thought their was another bill which would allow you more optons for carrying in a vehicle, and i thought would prevent your employer from banning you from having a firearm secured in your vehicle. has anybody heard anything about this?

There was SB239, it didn't go anywhere. I agree, check out the OCC forum.

Democratic Speaker of the House Armond Budish refused to schedule a vote on the bill and it died at the end of the legislative session (Dec 31).

The bill has been re-introduced in the House as HB 45 and the Senate as SB 17. Unfortunately, since it is a new legislative session, everything has to start from the beginning.

thanks guys, i had heard that budish wouldn't let the bills come to the floor for a vote but i wasn't sure if both bills were reintroduced this year or if it was just the restaurant carry bill. if they pass which i think they will, how long untill they would go into effect?

Last I heard, both of the senate bills from last year have been reintroduced into the republican controlled house. I hope we see passage this year---shouldn't be a problem.

For the sake of activism, I'd like to think I did a little bit to help with all the emails to my house rep last year. They will continue as needed this year.

A lot of people think it is ninety days after the Governor signs the bill, but in reality, it is ninety days after the Secretary of State journalizes the fact that the bill was passed and signed. That's usually a few days after the Governor signs.

Both bills that have been introduced this session are identical to those that passed with over whelming bi-partisan support out of the Senate last session. Both of these bills *should* fast track through both the House and the Senate.

Both bills will receive hearings again this Tuesday. 1:30 House, 4:30 Senate. Come for the pure entertainment value of hearing the irrational thought patterns of the anti's testifying against us!

Linda, thanks for the update. I can't make it to the hearing myself due to that pesky thing called work, but I am anxious to see these pass and I have emailed the local reps and let them know how I feel.

"congressman" or representative? Congressman is federal, representative is state. This is a state bill.

It doesn't seem like much else is happening in the state while the Assembly and the Gov deal with SB5. After that, maybe we can get these two through.

House committee passes bill by a vote of 12-10. This means there may be a floor vote by the House tomorrow or Thursday.

All 7 amendments that the dems wanted to amend into the bill were shot down. Hopefully it will go to the House for a floor vote next week. We will have it on Buckeye Firearms website when we find out.

Finally passed the house today. The senate passed a slightly different version I believe so they still need to be reconsiled before the Gov gets it to sign.

now we just need the bill to pass that will allow all non felon adults to carry openly or concealed almost anywhere without any permit needed. i believe you should have some training before you carry a firearm. but a permit is unconstitutional.
