Anyone know where I can find one? P229 in .357Sig with a rail Buds is out... my LGS wants... wait for it... $960+7.4% sales+$10 Transfer fee...

I've seen them for around 800... which seems fair to me... Mil/LE enforcement discount would be a plus... I just don't know who has one for me. I guess I could just get a 229 in .40 then buy the .357Sig

Also, any reviews of them? Anyone have one? I'm interested in any info anyone may or may not have. I'm not talking about a 229... I'm more just interested in the 357 Sig and the way it transfers into the 229 platform.

Try www.topgunsupply.com to see if they have any.

Your dealer is going to charge you a transfer fee on a gun you purchase from them? :what: I'd let that rip off of a shop be known so everyone can avoid that place.

The .357 is a snappy cartridge, think .40 S&W but snappier. It has a very distinct crack to it. I love the round itself but haven't gotten around to picking up a pistol because of the cost of ammo compared to 9mm.

Looks like it's time to find a new dealer! It's such instances that it pays to have a dealer you stick with, have stuck with and are a good loyal customer too. Shop hopping to save a few bucks...not good relations. Look and see on SIG's site where the nearest factory dealer is. Otherwise, the only distributor for them - I believe - is RSR.

i went to buy a .357 sig back in 2003 - dealer talked me into a .40 and i'm glad he did. Ammo cost and ease of finding ammo were main factors. Have you tried gun genie?

Had one, very nice shooter. I never shot it well though the single action trigger was too short for my long finger. Replaced it with a G32 and I'm more than happy.

Thanks all... My LGS is more of a shopping experience. I go there to put my booger hooks all over his stuff and then find it online elsewhere. He's a jerk, his staff is no better, and you just feel like you're bothering everyone in there unless you're dropping money on an Ed Brown.

I've done my 357Sig research... shouldn't be a big issue in terms of recoil. I'll pick up a 40S&W barrel for it if ammo becomes too much of an issue. That will work right?

Also, I'll be reloading for .357Sig sooo should be even better.

P229

Sorry I can't answer your question about where to get it. I have good experiences with my early production P229 (minus rail) and my Glock 27 w/ Storm Lake .357 Sig dual port bbl. Both are much faster on the splits than with .40SW ammo. Got the SRT and general action mods from the factory and now the sear reset is right there and positive between shots which was my only previous complaint about the P229

Are you Mil/LEO? If so, call SIG direct and speak with a Mil/LEO rep. They will walk you though the various procedures for purchasing a discounted pistol. I have spoken with them in the past on the same issue, not a big deal to satisfy the requirements. Bud's is set up to do this. You buy the gun through them, at SIG's discounted price, and have it shipped to your local dealer to run the transfer.

.357 Sig is great. Very under rated cartridge. And yes just a new drop in barrel is all you need to switch between .40 and .357. The mags are the same, no matter what they're marked.

So I made some phone calls... haggled a little and got it today. Paid a little bit more than I wanted to pay but I was probably chasing a dream on my price.

I'll write a range report on saturday afternoon when I get back from the range...

Excited to shoot a new round though...

OK... so got to the range to shoot it today.

Round count looked like this 100 Winchester white box. First(and only complaint) is that I stopped at two Walmart's and could only find 2 Boxes of 50 each. I have rectified this immediately by ordering in bulk.

So, I'll let you know what I expected by what I brought out to shoot today. I took my M&P40c with some 180gr ammo and a buddy brought his snub nosed Judge. So I took my M&P out first just to get back into the saddle. After i was confident(aka keeping everything in the 10ring at 10m) and out of .40 I took my Sig out.

My initial impression everytime I pick up the gun is how solid it is. Anyone who has handled a Sig knows what I'm talking about. The thing exudes confidence and my friend describes holding it as "giving his hand a hug" (yes I know every 229 will feel the same... I'm just doing a quick run down).

So I load up a magazine with five rounds... I chambered and holstered into my serpa paddle. I draw, nice slow and steady, the pistol presents like a dream. Immediately on target. First thing I notice when I start to pull the trigger (For a DA shot) is that it is more less a nice steady pull. It doesn't load up too too badly (not like my ruger does). Finally the break is crisp clean, and doesn't require any extra umph to get it to let go.

Now for what I was most surprised in. The 357 Sig is notoriously hot. Given it's stigma I was ready for a huge kick and to be fighting the muzzle and my wrists for a follow up. Here's my suprise: it wasn't anything more than I was getting out of my M&P 40c. The added muzzle flip just isn't there. Yeah, it's pretty snappy. On the same order as full sized 40.

I was able to keep everything in the 10ring on my first mag of five. The slide locked back as designed, the decocker works as designed.

Everything with this gun is smooth. The recoil off of a 357 Sig is nothing like I was worried about. All in all I'm a happy camper. The biggest downside is ammo availability, but that can be solved with some bulk buy internet shopping. I'm interested to get out and shoot some wet phone books, or some gel and see exactly what some SD ammo will do.

All in all great pistol, the 229 has long been known as a great platform and is used all over... after shooting this today I can see why.

I don't recall the article's title, but it was a test of the Finochi .357SIG ball ammo. It so over-penetrated ballistic gel and telephone books that the author advised it unsuitable for Personal Defense due to collateral damage possibilities from the over-penetration. I haven't located any for my personal testing, but it sounds like great car door killer ammo.
