M and P .45 compact

I've got one-really like it-you better have some"big" pockets.

I like mine. It's only 1/4 in shorter in length then the M&P 9 and 40. These holsters will fit the 45c.

btw: the M&P45c is the best one in the M&P line up.

I am about to purchase an m&p 45 compact. Is this a good quality weapon?

I would think it is too big to pocket carry, but this month's American Handgunner magazine has an article by Clint Smith where he talks about pocket holsters he uses for his N-frame S&W revolvers. They are bigger than the M&P.

I've seen and handled them at gun shows. They are only slightly smaller than the full-size 9/40-caliber M&Ps, larger than the compact models of the same caliber. For short times and distances you can stick it in a large enough pocket, but it is not practical for continuous pocket carry.

I would agree with the previous posters, it is too big for practical pocket carry though I did pack it around in my Carhart vest pocket for a day. Excellent value in a quality handgun IMO.

Not practical to pocket carry, but it is a nice pistol. Mine has been great for 2 years. Crossbreed holster works well with this pistol.

How does the MP .45 compact compare to the glock 23 in thickness and overall size?

I rented an M&P.45 compact and put several hundred rounds thru it. Recoil was manageable after a few magazines. Accuracy was great. It was really easy to shoot small groups. The only drawback was my strong hand finger continually pinched between the bottom of the magazine well and the magazine.

The M&P 45C is a hair bigger than the Glock 23 in every dimension, essentially the same size though - very close. It is a bit heavier but an empty 23 is a feather. Both fully loaded with 180's and 230's, they're very close with the 23 having a five round capacity advantage. The 45C feels like a more substantial, higher quality gun IMO and I'm a huge Glock fan.

Do they S&W ... polygonal rifle their M&P45c barrels?

I could only find a Storm Lake after market barrel for the M&P45c ... Here's a new can a worms ... anyone know. How are their barrels??

Somewhat old post but I'll chime in. I had a M&P 45c and sold it thinking I could find something better. While trying to find, shoot and carry a variety of different pistols and revolvers I again own a M&P45c.

The size, weight, caliber and capacity are ideal for me to both carry all year and enjoy using it as a range piece. Wanting to actually shoot your carry gun will translate to better proficiency with it. The ergonomics and grip angle point and feel just like a 1911 which is spot on for me. I tend to point glocks high.

I have and do pocket carry a sp101 with a 2" barrel and I do not think the M&P 45c is a suitable gun to pocket carry. Aside from the trigger being a bit light for the task I think the overall dimensions would severely limit the potential clothing choices. The better option for me was a quality IWB holster and going up in size on my tee shirts.

Neither my old or new M&P45c ever missed a beat and they were both mostly fired with my reloads.
