The one factor that has not been discussed is the cost factor. All of the characteristic thus far discussed relate to reliability and shootablity. The cost factor raised it's ugly head when one needs to use the firearm in a public roll. The authorities will cease your firearm and stage it into a Property Room. Where it goes from there and how long it must stay there is anyones guess. I carry a CZ-82 and though it is a fine CC gun it won't break my heart if it is confiscated and held for a prolonged time waiting for the police sort out the incident and find me innocent..

It was a standard Wilson catalog item for a couple of years in the late 90s. A friend of mine had one. He agonized over the K9 Elite and the Wilson. He ended up with the wilson. Then sold it when the P9 came out and got more for it than he paid.

The trigger was buttery smooth.

There are two of them in .40 on GB now.

I think it looks much sharper in two tone with the fancy wood grips.

I'll never quite understand this argument. If a gun saves my life and I don't get it back, I'm pretty sure I won't give a rat's ass how much it cost. I can always make more money and buy another gun; I can't come back from the dead.

I've never understood that statement either. I'd want to carry the gun that gives me the best chance to survive a deadly encounter.

The cost of the gun doesn't even enter into my decision when I choose what to carry...reliability first, then shootability

Pancho - I hate to pig pile on top, but I agree with Harmon and 9mmepiphany.

Not that I'd go carrying a custom engraved Valtro around, but definitely the highest quality I could afford.

There's also the intangible of pride of ownership. Sometimes I'll unload my Nighthawk Talon II and just look at it. I can't say I do that with my plastic Kahrs, Glocks , or Rugers.

Conversely, every time I take my Glock apart I am amazed at how it was designed to be manufactured as well as maintained quickly and efficiently. I do believe the glock to be the ultimate firearm appliance.

The 2 that come to mind first are the Springfield EMP 1911, And the new Kimber Solo 9mm. Both are freaking gorgeous and built with outstanding quality. IMO the "classiest" of the two would be the kimber solo. I saw one at a gun store the other day and I knew instantly that I wanted one. It has a pretty sweet trigger pull too, as does the EMP obviously because it's a 1911.

Unique and super cool? The H&K P7 9mm would be my first choice, perhaps with a matte hard chrome finish. Accuracy, reliability and safety in one package. All steel, with a legendary reputation. Why else was it the choice of so many good police departments? Ammo is plentiful and reasonable. Second choice would be a .45 Colt Commander. However, by the time you have the smith tune it for its potential in terms of both accuracy and reliability, it is a high price. You might wish to consider the new Desert Eagle 1911 in the shorter barrel version. I have not fired one, but if the action is as accurate and reliable as its big brother's (standard size 1911) you have a real bargain. It is made of quality steel on CNC machinery (computer controlled) and has excellent fit with tight tolerances. The Israelis make it, and they do know a few things about quality firearms. If you get any 1911, please do not get cheap magazines. This is a critical component in your weapon's reliability. I like the Tripp and Wilson models, with a slight edge to the former, due to better fit and finish. Neither has ever failed me in FTL, FTE or other malfunction. There are other quality magazines advertised out there, but test any magazine with your carry loads before you rely on it. Ammo for the .45 is plentiful, but costs a bit more than the 9mm. Good luck with your choices. Keep us posted.

Check out:

1. Star BM-- 9mm single stack. A very thin 1911 style

2. Astra A75L-- 9mm single stack; alloy frame; decocker

Good weapons & something different. Both been reliable for me.

Have you seen "Give Em Hell Malone"?

I know this is autoloaders but this...
