Well, i've owned my p11 for about 2 years now, bought used. Why do people complain about them so much? I don't shoot it much, 2-3 mags a week but I haven't had any problems. Whats the deal?

The most common gripe I hear about the P11 is that it has a heavy trigger pull with a lot of "creep". My experience with all Kel-Tecs I've owned is that they need some work as they come from the factory to be reliable, but once they are properly fixed-up they run really well. Personally I chose the PF-9 over the P11 due to the slimmer grip (easier to comfortably conceal) and better trigger pull, but I wouldn't mind having a P11 as well.

To put it simply, some people cannot get over the fact that they can be had for less than $300.....

Happy owner of a P11 here.....don't listen to the bad trigger, bad ergonomics nonsense...for what it is, a very close range, light pocket pistol is perfect...a real powerhouse, deadly reliable and you do not have to worry about scratches and scuffs....backed by a great company.
It is not a range pistol and never intended to be....just few magazines here and there to keep proficient...

I would also prefer a pf-9 but this one fell in my lap really cheap. Creep and heavy trigger are not a big deal for a defense gun. (my opinion) I've always gotten the impression that folks looked on them kinda like raven arms. Mine doesn't seem to fit that description.

Definitely not a Raven!!:D Again, a lot of folks are uncapable of distinguish between inexpensive great firearms and crappy ones.....don't bother trying to explain, you would waste your time... I know quite few LEOs that have P-11 and PF-9 as backup guns...the P-11 has been on the market for very long time already....

I also had a pf-9 and a p-11. I like the trigger on the pf-9 but the 11 was was one i just could not get close to and let it go . It had the heavist trigger on any pistol I have shot. I also own a kahr cw9 and a glock 27 and I reather carry my pf-9. Going to sell the kahr to, same size and cap, trigger is the same weight pull as the kt but just a heavier pistol.

just got back from the range with my PF9. Put another 100 rounds through it. I have not had a single malfunction with it since I purchased it. I carry it daily and trust it to go bang when I pull the trigger. I want another Kel Tec and will probably have several more before it is over.

My primary CCW was a P-11 for a short time, but I got rid of it........I couldn't get past the trigger, and that made me a liability in my mind.

I have to agree with the detractors on this one. While mine has been entirely reliable, I just can't get used to the trigger. I have a slightly tuned CZ75B with a pretty light trigger that I shoot much more often and the 8-1/2 lb trigger on the KT is tough to get used to. Then there's the reset. Obviously if you have a DAO with that long of a pull you have to have equally as long a reset. Mine's on the chopping block and I don't know if I'll ever get another DAO with that heavy a trigger and that long of a break.

FWIW, on KTOG.org there's a guy that modified his grip frame to reduce the length of the main spring when assembled although he didn't shorten the main spring itself. By recessing the anchor further inside the magazine well he reduced the tension on the main spring thus reducing the trigger pull weight. I think he got it down to 6 or 6-1/2 lbs and it still strikes the primers reliably. He didn't do any kind of drop test to see if it would still be drop safe.

In any event, I'm getting rid of mine after not being able to get used to the trigger to the point where I can keep a magazine in the black at 7 yards in a reasonable amount of time. I put the pinky extension on mine and a hand-all and tried with and without gloves. Nothing has helped and I don't want that kind of liability. Great little gun if you can shoot it well. It's just not my cup of tea.

I was caught between P11 and PF9. I went with the PF9. Turns out I like the P11 also after some trigger time with a few. And even better would be a P40 they use to make. I figured they stopped making it because of all the limp wristing wussy's that cost them money. And the holy grail being the .357 Sig barreled P11. Those are real sweet!!!!!!

So I have a P11 on my must buy list and will also be looking for a P40 and the .357 Sig conversion.

Yup, trigger was terribly stiff on mine. It was fine otherwise and never bobbled. Gone down the road many moons ago for something else I couldn't live without.

i did that "paper clip" mod to the hammer spring to my p11 and p40...it took a couple of tries to get it where i wanted, but it came out great...i highly recommed it...it takes five minutes to put it back to stock, should the need arise...gary

I added a trigger shoe and an over-travel stop...and lots of dry firing, and mine's like a somewhat decent DA revolver at this point. I love the capacity for the size and still turn to it for certain situations where capacity/weight is important.

I've had one for a while. I modded my 10 round mag into a 12. It makes a great CCW piece, but it's definitely not a range toy. That's why I got a G17 :)

My P11 does everthing that I ask of it, without fail. A little polishing on the internals helped the trigger, but firing it a lot did the most good. I think I'll keep it!

My EDC is a P11. I don't get the complaints about the trigger. The trigger is the safety. Its made that heavy for a reason. I love mine. The small size, decent capacity, reliability. Its a great CC pistol in my opinion. Can't beat it for the price.

The reason many people don't like the P11 trigger goes beyond just the heavy weight of the pull, it also has a lot of "creep" to the trigger for lack of better terms. All of the keltec pocket pistols rely on a relatively heavy trigger pull as the safety, but both my p3at and pf9 have a smoother and lighter trigger than the p11 and are still safe from a ND. All of that being said, I chose the pf9 over the p11 not because of the trigger, but because I preferred the slimmer grip for more ease and comfort in concealment. This is not meant to insult anybody who has a p11, we all make our choices for a reason and if you are happy with what you choose that's what matters.

I wish they would make a double stack PF9........an updated P-11 with a PF9 like trigger, sights, grip, etc.

Switching to DAO is a hurdle. The P11 size and ergos are not bad (don't like the take down) but the trigger is the real dislike. The one I shot came with the rubber trigger bump behind the trigger. You do the long trigger pull to the rubber stop then pull harder to fire it. I never felt certain when the gun would actually fire. Put a Glock, Walther AS or QA trigger on it and they would have a keeper.

If the heavy-weight trigger is the safety then I think I'd rather have a 4-6lb DAO with a manual safety, hence the reason mine is on the chopping block.

Put a Glock, Walther AS or QA trigger on it and they would have a keeper.

Thats essentially what they did with the PF9, making it a striker-fired version of the P11. I think their trigger is around 6lbs, if I remember correctly.

You got a good one. I didn't. After mine physically broke for the third time, K-T replaced it with a brand new one with my old SN#. I traded it off unfired -- couldn't trust it not to break in the middle of a gunfight! :uhoh:

And even better would be a P40 they use to make. I figured they stopped making it because of all the limp wristing wussy's that cost them money.

Errr NO! I had a P-40 conversion that even K-T couldn't get to fire a full magazine without jamming. Oh, and as for limp-wristing, any autoloader that won't function reliably no matter how held is a defective design. You have to be able to count on a defensive firearm even if you're injured, using it with your off-hand, or with a hastily acquired grip. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I now have a PF-9 which, after a trip back to K-T is now 100% reliable, as is my Walther PPS in .40 S&W.

Kel-Tec P11

I had one of them very briefly a couple years ago, mine came with a flush fit 12 round magazine, its my understanding the 10 round mags are a result of the Clinton era ban, the S&W 3900 series mags in 15, 20 and 30 round capacities, lock into and feed reliably in the Kel-Tec P11, I am told that is by design as evidenced by Kel-Tec making thier carbines in various configurations to accept Beretta mags, S&W mags, Glock mags. They even make a mag sleeve for the 15 round S&W mag to fill in the gap when used in the P11.
