I've recently been reading that the roll pins break with ease and the design is not very good. A quick search on google brings up lots of threads regarding broken striker retention roll pins. Also no PD departments or mitary use this. Basically does is this design durable?

Google "Glock KaBoom." Do Glocks suck? Is Glock's design flawed? No. Same with the XD.

"Basically does is this design durable?"

He originally posted "Basically does this design suck?" then changed the question to its current iteration. My response was directed at the initial version.

This sounds like a typical internet question. The answer is that the XD is pretty good. All designs have pros and cons. The only real drawback I see to the XD is the extractor design, but it works well enough. I don't think the XD is the best striker-fired pistol on the market, but it's pretty good.

Any gun that uses roll pins in its construction is most likely a cheap, poorly designed throwaway gun.

Oh wait...

You referring to the AR-15 family or something else? :)

@ Z-Michigan: I was thinking of Sigs. All my cheap, throwaway Sigs use roll pins, especially those poor-quality German made Sigs with the stamped slides... big double roll pin holding the breechblock in the slide. Must be a European potmetal clunker... :)
