Long Range Build

What about 6.5x284, or 7mm Rem Mag?

What are you planning to use it for? If for hunting what game?

Depends on what your definition of long range is? If long range is over 1500yds, 416 Barret or 408 cheytac. The ballistic advantage goes to the 416, but the 408 is know for excellent accuracy. The 408 loads are more expensive I believe though. If you keep it inside 1500yds just go with a 7wsm.

What do you define as "Long Range"? Are we talking maximum under 1200yds, or 1200yds+ consistently?
The heavy magnums are great for serious long range shooting, but are sort of a waste of money if you only plan to shoot at 600-1000yds.

i have a 338LM and was looking into 416 barrett but at the the time ammo, and brass were extremely hard to locate. 408 chey-tac seemed to be slightly easier to obtain brass and ammo. once you step to the .40 class long range, good b.c. bullets are very expensive, $2+ if i remember correctly. if money is not an object I would go with the chey-tac hands down. if money is somewhat a consideration i would go 338 edge. that would help keep brass/bullet/powder costs considerably lower. as for range any of them are capable of oustanding range with energy to harvest game, if the shooter is up to task. Big bore long range is extremely fun,addictive and expensive
