Anyone like to carry a Big Gun?

and here I was thinking you were talking about an Automag or DEagle...
those are just service or FULL sized guns

Large gun, talk about a .500 or so revolver...

Ive always carried full sized guns, and never had any problems doing so.

It makes more sense to me to carry what you shoot best, than what you think goes best with those shoes.

i have an xd 9 and find that with winter/ fall clothing the provided kydex holster conceals quite easily......in the summer i swap to an uncle mike' IWB Holster and carry just as easily. when the situation simply doesn't allow a full size pistol, i carry a cobra derringer in 38. Spl.
I slide it in a can huggie/coozie and slide it in my pocket. a camera case also works well for this and an extra pocket allows me to carry a bianchi speed strip easily as well.

no. I never like to carry a big gun.

Big guns are a PITA to carry around.

Actually, they really arent. I find it more trouble to carry the smaller ones than I do the full size.

Then again, Im usually carrying them in addition to the full size.

Started on a USP .40, does that count?

I always liked the compact versions of full size guns, or full size guns that have a manageable height for carry.

I carry a 5" 1911 and P220 and a BHP... In the right holster and belt I have no issue.

Mind over matter. If you carry a bigger gun long enough, you get used to it.

My carry guns are pretty much limited to a 1911, a 629, and an xDM -- neither of which are what I'd consider large guns. As far as capacity goes, I'm very comfortable with only 6 rounds of .44, or 9 rounds of .45 before a reload. With the xDM ... I'd expect to have "a few" left over in the mag by the time I was done getting off the X and reaching the end of hostilities.

I keep thinking I'm going to pick up a really small gun one of these days, but I really don't have a need.

I normally carry a Glock Model 22 or a full size Colt or Les Baer 1911 without much trouble at all....if I HAVE to carry something smaller then Glock 27 or Colt Officer's ACP are preferred "hot weather" carry options....if absolutely FORCED to carry something smaller yet...S&W J-frame .38spl +P or Colt Pony Pocket Lite
I have carried Glock 21 & Beretta 92FS concealed without a problem in the past also Sig Sauer 226 & Browning Hi Power have done concealed carry in the past! Carry the gun you will have the best chance of hitting with that you can possibly get away with carrying ... If you need it you will wish you had brought enough gun!!!

The first gun I ever seriously carried was a Colt Commander. It was a pain to carry because I just put it in my waistband without a decent holster or belt. Im not counting this one against the carry of full size pistols.

Then I got a Smith M60 J frame to pocket carry. It was easy. It felt great. It is not a lightweight J frame which is so fashionable these days yet it rides in my pocket just fine. I even carry my M38 which is an airweight, from time to time and I cannot tell a difference. (mind over matter I guess you could call it)

Then I bought a Milt Sparks belt and VMII to carry a Browning Hi Power. This was comfortable in nearly any position and I carried this gun for more than a year.

Then I went back to the J frame. I decided there was not much reason to carry a bigger gun on a day to day basis. I tried to convince myself I could carry a service sized gun for the rest of my life but the compromise of convenience and carryability over size and weight won the day.

There are limitations to my choice though. As I mentioned earlier I carry the steel framed revolver. I do this because I want the added weight. This helps with shooting one handed, which I believe will be the way in which I use it to defend myself. I have a bobbed hammer on my gun because I think this adds to its concealabity when carried crossdraw which I am doing more and more often so both my hands can have access to the gun should the need arise. Even though I carry a small gun, it is by no means the smallest. The ultra small guns have a niche that is probably a little too overplayed by marketing and perceived needs. They take a lot of practice to shoot well and are probably something that should not be gotten as a first gun even though many are the only gun owned by some.

The jist of it is this. Carry what is comfortable and comforting. I have carried the larger guns but ease of the smaller ones trumped any advantages of the bigger ones. I practice quite often with the M60 and am supremely confident in my abilities with it.

I don't like too carry a 'big gun". My POS PT709 broke(twice ) I was forced to carry my Sig P220R for a month. It was December here in New England, I could hide the pistol well enough since I had heavy clothes but damn....it was uncomfortable and unruly..I have to say I hated it.
I carry a K9 now and plan to go even smaller for summer as soon as I can get my hands on a CM9.

Or perhaps some people have trouble concealing a larger pistol because they are overweight...

I carry a CZ75B both IWB and OWB the vast majority of the time. It is really not hard to conceal under a shirt if your shoulders are wider than your midsection and you have a decent belt/holster. It is the gun I am most comfortable and best at shooting, and if I am going to carry a gun I might as well carry a gun.

i like the xdsc40 and compact 45 , the tactical was too hard to conceal for me.

Yep, I do. There's some ad out there that states "Carrying a gun is supposed to be comforting, not comfortable." I agrees... my usual carry is a Ruger 345. I also use a Taurus Tracker in .44 Mag. I'm a bigger, heavier guy, and I carry IWB, left side, butt forward for a cross draw. My right shoulder is kindof wonky and I can do this much easier and quicker than if I had the gun on my right side. At any rate, I've also muchly carried my Kel Tec P11 and my Colt 2" Detective Special - I really don't find the bigger guns to be any more inconvienient or bulky, (and they're a whole lot more comforting, as well. And more accurate) Your experience may differ from mine.

I don't actually LIKE carrying a big gun, but I do like having a big gun with me. Wearing my M&P45 is not all that comfortable, or concealable, but it's great knowing I have substantial gun on me. Sometimes, mainly during the summer months, I'm just not up to it and carry a glock 26 instead. The g26 is light, and doesn't jab my kidneys. When I'm hot my comfort level is already low, after I strap a gun on it gets even lower, so I want something light and small.

Sometimes my want of comfort overrides my want of a large gun on me. I haven't had a handgun yet that I couldn't conceal under a loose fitting t-shirt (and that includes my ruger 22/45).

Yes. I like to carry a big gun. Government Model 1911 IWB every day.

People who have actually had to defend themselves tend to carry big (ger) guns.
