I've been kinda keeping my eye open for comments here and elsewhere regarding holsters for my Ruger GP100 6". I do not want a belt holster, but rather something that will hold it beneath my left arm placing end of barrel at or above the belt-line for carrying in the field while hunting and such. I plan to give coyote hunting a whirl if/when my son-in-law can get away long enough. There aren't many to choose from in local gun stores that I'd be able to try out. So what have some of you found that works good for you.

Great looking suggestions. I'm thinking a holster like the Chesty that might slide around under my shoulder but with the same angled position as shown in the last photo. Thanks

Did a lot of looking around on the net looking for ideas and how-to info. One holster maker said that when you are finished to completely saturate the holster with water and place the gun in it until it is dry. Really?!!!

You do want to mold the holster to the gun after you're done stitching the holster together. If you are using a real gun make sure it's oiled and then wrap it in one or two layers of saran wrap before putting it into the holster to form. Also the holster doesn't need to be completely saturated. I run mine under the faucet for a second or two is all.

If you are serious about making your own holsters purchase a copy of this book. It has sections on making patterns from your gun, stitching, various retention straps, etc. It is $13 well spent.

You can also visit Leatherworker.net they have a lot of good leather working information including a subforum specifically on holsters.
